What's your experiece with either of the following:

California Water Blade
California Car Duster

Thanks....Lucky

Regardless of the advertising, the water blade can scratch your car. All it takes is to have a small nick in the blade, or to trap a tiny piece of dirt or rock chip. You can imagine the results as you drag it across the paint surface. It will scratch your clearcoat. The duster works fine, as long as you dont use it as a substitute for washing the car. I dont use the exterior one, because if the car is THAT dirty, I just go ahead and wash it. But, I do have the small dashboard version that I use for a quick interior dusting.

Duster

I use the California car duster on a daily basis because I have a black car and we live in AZ. I do not use it as a substitute for washing the car, which I do at least once a week. So far I have had good results with it. I just get the layer of dust that has settled in a 24 hr. period off. It hasn't scratched the paint. Now today I won't use it because yesterday we had some scattered showers while driving and it needs to be washed. I have found it to be beneficial, especially since it is a black car.

The duster works well for my black 82 but not a substitute for a good wash.(Don't say it Bud :nono)Instaed of the water blade I use the Absorber. I love it, best product I've found for drying.

I use the duster inside...and my handy dandy leaf blower on the exterior...with a final wipe with a 100% cotton USA towel.

At one time I used the California Duster on the Vette, but not anymore. It was my experience that it would leave hairline scratches in the clear, so I no longer employ it. If the car is not covered, I will quick detail it in order to remove the dust instead.

As far as the California water blade goes, I also have one of those and it serves a purpose - I use it to remove the excess water from the glass of my daily driver after a wash. I never touch it to the Vette for fear of picking up that tiny piece of grit and rubbing it into the paint - besides, I rarely wash my car so I don't have a need for it on the Vette.

Some people use these products with much success. Proceed with caution and see what works best for you and your comfort level. :) :v

California Water Blade
I have to say that I have a big problem with these. They are advertised that the silicone blade won't scratch the surface of your car. However, if you miss a bit of dirt or dust falls onto the surface if it gets trapped under the blade then that is what can scratch your surface. You have to be sure that 100% of the time you have 100% of dirt off your car.

Shortly I'll be making a washing and drying video avaiable to everyone here on the board that will make the whole process incredibly easy (and using a CWB pointless).... It will be shot on Feb1 with a few days post production.

California Car Duster
I think there are a few things you should be aware of on the CCD:

Caution 1: Dusting Action
Do not press down on the surface with the duster. The duster is coated with wax that pulls the dust off the surface on contact.

Caution 2: Use caution when using on a hot surface.
The wax that coats the tassles can cause streaks on your car. Some people report that they go to shows and they get streaks. Here's a scenerio: You drive 25 min, in the sun, to a show. You go through registration, sitting in the sun and the surface of your car heats up AND the wax on the CCD in your trunk also softens as it heats up in the sun. So you grab it and go to dust and the softened wax on a hot surface can produce streaks.

Caution 3: It is a Duster
Note that it is not called a California Car DIRTER. It should only be used for getting rid of light surface dust.

Caution 4: Regular Washing
There are areas of your cars that can get a bit of light dusting that you can't reach with the duster so regular washing is should be included in your regime. This will, of course, vary person to person what regular means.

When used properly the California Car Duster can be a nice tool in your arsenal. Used improperly and you can pay the price with some light surface scratches.

I've used the duster on my 78 S/A and now the 96---It should be used for light dust--not days of dust or grim.

I have all three. Very seldom use the duster on the exterior. If the car is dirty or heavily dusty, I just wash it. The water blade is a different story. I use it every time I wash the car. I then finish off with one of the absorber towells. Makes drying a snap.

I use the duster and the water blade. My car gets lots of wax and no daily driving.
