Consider a VaraRam intake.

Advantages: Cooler outside air pulled into intake, slight ram effect at speed. It was worth an extra 3-4MPH trap speed in the 1/4 mile.

Disadvantage: Risk of water ingestion with resulting severe engine damage.

I got a mod for ya!!!!!!!!

Welcome to the CAC!!!!! We are glad you are here!!!!!!!!

How about an '04 Z06???????? :D

You can pick one up for cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Good luck!!!!!!!

I like this idea better then BV'S. One thing, I still have not read about anyone on any forum who has forced water into there block with the VR setup. And if there is someone who has done it then they need there skipper license taken away.

;LOL

I believe the gentlemen is asking about the LS6 manifold.

Quite honestly its not really a worth while mod in and of itself..

I would recommend a mild cam install...

that'll cost you about 1500 installed , give you daily drivability without concern and make a performance difference that will enjoy.

224/224 .561 114lsa is a suggestion..

I have this cam and I am using my car more and more as I'm just enjoying the car that much more..

Another suggestion is swapping out the 3.42 rear gears (if its a manual) and throwing in 4.10's with the m6 tranny...

One of the sweetest mods out for a grand installed. Barely affects the warranty, gas mileage...and dramatically improves the driving experience..

If I've heard it once...I've heard it a thousand times by guys who have done this rear gear mod.." should have been a first mod"

Just so you know the 4.10's in an m6 equal the 3.73's in the M12 so you will have identical gearing as I do in the first three gears..

Gotta tell you....its again...a seamless mod for everyday use.

Really a good choice as well...if just a few dollars more than what you are considering..

HTH

Good luck in whatever you decide.

Hi JB,

This is interesting.
What kind of power gain did you realize with just a cam swap?
You did say just the cam right? You left the stock heads on?
Did you dyno before and after?
How does the car idle/feel with the new cam?

I know, lots of questions, but that's what makes this place great!

Please share.

Thanks,
Pedro

BTW, how're things in Joisy? I lived there (in Elizabeth) 'til '67.

(snip)

So...a 10hp gain is not a worthwhile mod? Come on, people.....

With an early LS1 that's what you'll gain by bolting on the LS6 intake. The manifold is so go that after 01, all C5 engines had it.

The intake works even better with other air flow enhancements such as the aforementioned camshaft or head work.

It seems with the cost of some of these mods that supercharging would be the best bang for the buck.

I whole heartedly agree, for the money it's a great return. Much better HP return than the aftermarket cat backs that run 900-1500 for maybe a 5 - 8 HP return. I believe the next best return for the money are long tube headers. Get the air in, then get rid of it in the most efficient manner.
Those are two great ways to liven up that LS1 airpump!

I think the main thing is to get more cool air in, but you are going to need some fuel to mix with it to avoid creating a lean condition. My 99' FRC had the LS6 intake, 80mm throttlebody, vortex powerduct, 1000cfm MAF ends, 6" conicle K&N filter. I cut away the radiator shroud exposing the filter to air from underneath, and removed those plastic fog lamp inserts. Along with those mods. I did the coolant by-pass, 160 degree thermostat and tuned with a Diablosport Predator Programmer. I also went with 30# fuel injectors to ensure that fuel delivery, using the MAF translator for fine tuning. While I did the SLP long tube headers, high flow cats installation, I replaced my wires with Taylor 409 10.4mm, and bosch platinum +4 plugs, flowing through a Borla cat back system to help get rid of it all. To me the basic recipe of air, fuel, spark and exhaust made my GM tech admit that my 99'FRC was faster than his 01' ZO6 after he took it out for a test drive. I think my 03 ZO6 405hp when it was stock would have had a problem encountering that car. Atleast that is how it felt to me at first. This winter the Z gets supercharged, and will put an end to my own questions about my 99' FRC I traded for it. :) Donnyonee there is hope for you, just keep modding.
