Is it just me or should we be seeing magazine tests of the Z06 by now? The car has been slated for sale this month and usually the press get their hands on a unit to drive and report their feelings on the car. Would this not normally show up in the September issue which is currently on the newstand? What am I missing? Where are my driving impressions, the comparison tests? I realize the comparo tests are a little ways off until the mags get hold of a production model, but give us some kind of morsel please.

Interestingly enough I recently saw the cover of the next issue of Road and Track and they have on the cover a photo of the Pontiac Solstice...(stunning little roadster) and they have a headliner on the cover about the C6 Z06 inside.

Should be just a couple of days till the C6 Z06 magazine articles hit in R &T , Car and Driver, Motor Trend and Automobile...(autoweek too)

Probably an agreement with GM that is keeping the articles back...

I'd imagine GM wants the car near the showrooms for the full articles to hit?

Good question and interesting that the preview on Road and Track had not the C6 Z06 on the cover but rather the solstice...(with an article headliner on the C6 Z06 on the cover too)

Check out the latest Car and Driver magazine.

GM's official 0-60 rating for the Z06 is 3.7 sec. C&D managed to rip out a 3.6.

This weekend at Carlisle, I just couldn't get enough of the Z06. GM brought a few of them in various colors. I absolutely love the car.

Years ago, before I bought the ZR-1 and I was Vette-less, I used to say, "I want one so bad, I can taste the exhaust." I'm starting to get the same feeling when it comes to the new C6 Z06.

I just can't decide if I want a yellow one or a red one. :L

Since my post I've seen more and more people state the latest issues are starting to have reviews in them. My current problem is they haven't hit the newstands yet and since I've cancelled my C&D subscription it looks like I have to wait. :)

Heard Dave M. at Carlisle say the articles should start to hit in the next few days as he was giving a seminar on the new Z06. He said then they are looking forward to the inevitable "shootouts", as they are not afraid of any other mark. I think they are very confident in this cars capabilities!

i just got my Car and Driver and Road and Track subsription yesterday :D

Hi Gorgon -

I am thinking we should start seeing them on the street.

I just received my road and track. It has a four page article on the C6 Z06.

In keeping with the the tradition of making us consumers decipher the real capabilities of a new vehicle, R&T lists the performance numbers of the new Z06 as:

0-60mph - 4.2 seconds
1/4 mile - 12.3 seconds
top speed - 198mph.

R&T's article has a quote something like "it's about time there was a Corvette that could compete with the Viper, although the Viper is still quicker with a 12.1 1/4 mile time."

In the same issue, Chevrolet has a 4x6 C6 Z06 cardstock insert touting performance data on the new Z06 as follows:

0-60 3.7 seconds
1/4 mile 11.7 seconds @ 125 mph
top speed - can't remember, doesn't matter.

I would like to think that a 505hp car with 6.2 lbs per HP would do better than the R&T numbers....I say bring on the Vipers :beer.

I guess we all have to wait for a C6 Z to get into the hands of someone more "deserving" than the R&T test drivers. :L

best regards -

Yea i was pretty disappointed with the R & T report as well, haven't read the C & D one yet.

No worries guys:

Motortrend got

0-60 - 3.5
1/4 mile - 11.5 @ 127.2 mpg
60-0 102 feet

These are the numbers off the top of my head

However the coolest number is that Car and Driver got like 7.9 for a 0-100 time. So many cars run low 4's but to run into the 7 for a 0-100 is impressive.

Cheers,

Michael

Don’t know why, but Road & Tracks test times are always the slowest out of all of the car mags. It’s been this way for years.

I remember reading back in 96; they ran a 96 LT4 in the 1/4 at 13.7 @ 104 mph. That’s slow for a LT4, stock, they handily run low 13’s. I recall seeing C5 test times being just as ridiculous in their publication.

I place no stock in what R&T reports, they’re incompetent when it comes to running a car down the 1/4.
