I am looking to buy a 2004 Z06 which has the Z16 option. Color is Lemans Blue, Black interior,
cross flags on the headrests, Commemorative 24:00 heures du mans 2gts wins emblems, but
there are no red or white stripes. This is a 1YY37, Z16 coded car from what the Service Parts
Id sticker says. It does have two thin stripes bordering the double hump of the hood that say
Commemorative with a chevy logo at the windshield end of the stripe, and two stripes that mimic
the fronts, from the back of the roof pillar to the edge of the tail.
I'm trying to figure out if this is a Commemorative Edition, what happened to the factory stripes,
or could they be deleted, or did the original owner remove them.
The present owner has 0 history of the car and really isn't that knowledgeable of C5's,
there is no window sticker, or anything on the car.
Any ideas?

I have owned my Z16 since new. Years ago, a lot of owners thought the stripes were a little much and removed them. The stripes were once available through Chevrolet, but I believe only the roof stripes and the ones on the rear deck are still available. You can check with your local dealer to check the VIN and find out if it is indeed a real Z16. There was once a great website, the Zi6 Forum, which had lots of info on these cars. Another source of info is the National Corvette Museum. From your description of the car, It sounds like a Z16 with the stripes removed. Other clues would be if the factory wheels are polished rather than the gray finish which came on all other Z06s that model year. Also the Z16 was unique in that the hood was made from carbon fiber. Good luck with you new purchase. It's a great car either way.

Unfortunately the car doesn't have its stock rims, but comes with a set of HRE wheels.
