i am in the houston area and the other day saw a pewter C5 with a Z07 badge on the side, and MTI Racing sticker on the back. i had never heard of a Z07, so when i got home i checked it out.

i was amazed at what i found. for $20,000+ you get your C5 upgraded to a 427 and other performance parts. final product 550hp! that seems like alot of cash, but i was thinking about it and the total bill would still be less than a viper. im sure much faster too. plus your still driving americas sports car

anyone here looked into doing this or have already done it? my initial thoughts are if I had the $$$ to spend, it would definatly be an amazing thing to do to a C5 or Z06.

here the link to the website.

Interesting link. I wonder what block they use? You can order a genuine C5R racing block from GM for about $6,500.00. I have seen one and it is one beautiful piece of work.

I'm looking at the 427 package myself. They use a resleeved Ls1/LS6 block and then sdder a stroker crank and rods. Very trick setup if you ask me. I figure with my blower I could get around 650hp at the wheels with more on tap.

*NOTE* if you're wanting an MTI stroker motor, better check out some of the LS1 forums before you head that way. There have been problems w/ the sleeves on them, as well as some other problems.

Now on another note. MTI is a very reputable company, and has some amazingly fast cars. Their heads/cam/nitrous packages are some of the best in the business, but you've putting your $$$ on the line, imo w/ an MTI stroker motor.

The Darton sleeves they use are top of the line and in fact Lingenfelter uses them too. I think with any package or setup there will be problems. When I bought my Vortech supercharger I got some doom and gloom about the bottom ends of LS6 motors going out. Do the research and make the company stand behind the product. Buy from the guy who is installing it and get a written warranty. If you install yourself then you take ALL the risks. I really cant imagine what kind of problem they could be having with the sleeves.

427

I've seen the sleeves that Ligenfelter uses. Actually he has gotten 428 cubic inches out of a LS1 block, but called it a 427 for namesake. There was an article in Motor Trend or Car and Driver a few years ago. It went 0-60 in 3.4 sec. and went through the quarter around 10 sec. 0-100 was in the 8 sec. range. No nitrous, all natural! I think it was about 550 hp from what I remember.

the master plan

you can get a 1997 C5 for about $20,000 give or take
add this Z07 package, another $21,000

total...$42,000 plus tax etc...

you now have a 427 corvette with 550hp and its less than a Z06.

if only i had that kind of dough.

I will be doing a supercharged 427 in the near future.
