I thought I would shoot this out here....Where are the places to ID the Z51 code on a C4 ? Are there identifying features you can spot on the car itself ? :confused

On my 86 z51, the rpo codes are in the back in the little storage bins. As for the package itself, I belive aside from the performance suspension things, you should identify 9.5 inch rims all around, a second fan in the front, an oil cooler, a long (longer) front air dam, and the steering wheel should take very little much to lock it to one side. Again, this is on an 86, but I dont think it changed that much in a year.

z51 rocks,

My 96 CE has Z51 and the above posts hold true for a 96 too. Another
thing is that my lower frt A arms are stamped Z51.

Well, I did not find the build sheet as it was evidently taken out. I didn't see the front A arms stamped but I did notice that the steering wheel locks almost immediantly but with nothing to compare to ...............I did find that I have a second fan in fron, also a oil cooler. I thought maybe I would be able to tell from the rear springs but I guess not.

After reading "CORVETTE America's Sports Car" by Randy Leffingwell, I was somewhat confused as to my thoughst that I had a Z51. I have an automatic and according to several places in the book he states that NO automatics were built with the Z51 package. I was under the impression that this was not true until around 1988 but I had also noticed several places where he had mistaken information (at least from what I have read in Fever and other places)
Once again, thanks for the help.
I have Corvette Cabin fever. Feburary and a long winter left. :mad I can only pass the time by my reading and tinkering. Waiting for spring!!!!:hb

Oh yeah:duh I also noticed that I have Bilstien shocks (yellow) and I believe that was a part of the Z51 package. Correct me if I am wrong.

In the book "101 projects for your corvette 1984-1996" it says:

1985:

RPO z51 springs were 16% softer in the front, 25% softer in the rear,

Large diameter stabalizer bars were included with Z51 equipped models. The front bar was 30 mm and the rear was 24.

then the thing about the 9.5 inch rims all around. Anyway, maybe you could measure the bars? BTW i have the yellow shocks also.

Where can I find the book "101 projects..........." ? sounds like a good one to read

My 85 is an automatic and it clearly states Z-51 on the build sheet...

Hey there you are. how you been? I don't have my build sheet but I understand I can get a duplicate from the Corvette museum.
