Well I just came from the ZO6Vette.com forums and found that alot of new ZO6 drivers are experiencing problems with some upshifts, downshifts, and the replacement of gears and syncros.
I have 9000mi. and I'm experiencing a problem with a 5th to 6th upshift, it will grind unless i double clutch or time the shift vs. rpm just right. Alot of these guys have the same problem in the first 10,000mi. My transmission in my 99 Hardtop was a better tranny. I never had an ounce of trouble from that one. Anyone else having a similar problem or a related problem?

Do they use the t56 in the Zo6?

Transmission

The ZO6 uses the M12 transmission order code, different gears and syncros, supposed to be more durable lol!

Welp, I know it doesn't help much, but I had a similar issue in my 98 Trans Am with the t56. Synchros were soft and were later found as metal shavings in the trans pan. Needless to say GM sent me a nice shiny new trans when my ride had 13K on it.

tranny

Well we are starting to find out about alot, I mean ALOT of these people with the same problem. I'm wondering if this is the start to a major problem with this tranny?

I also have an 03 Z06 and 5th to 6th has never given me a problem. Sometimes 1st to 2nd feels a little "notchy", however since this is my first stick I don't have anything to compare against.

I had an 01 coupe & at 5200 miles my trans did the same. Dealer replaced when they checked the oil & found metal & brass.

Maybe not then

I thought this was limited to the ZO6, well maybe not then. :eek

Z06 syncro

Todd, it's under warranty, have it checked. You are one of the few i know that has had this problem. Good luck and let us know

ZO6 Syncro

The car goes in tomorrow 2/4/04. I'll let you all know how long it takes for the dealer to fix, and what my chances are to get 3.73's installed while they are there.

The Car is Fixed

Under warrenty the transmission was repaired. Yes it was the 5th to 6th syncro that was damaged. Not only that, input and output shaft seals, all shift pads were cracked or broken. Runs beautiful now. It is unknown how this occured. Visit zo6vette.com and you will see the extent of owners with this problem within the first 20000 miles

Yeah, me too! They had is for about a week. I took it to Walter Earl in Bridgewater, which is where I've purchased 6 vehicles, 3 of them Corvettes! They have excellent service and have always treated me right. They have a huge selections of Vettes, plus they have a 2002 Electron Blue Z06 405hp for $38000 in superb condition, if you are interested. Won't last long at that price.

Im in Hanover right near bridgewater. I usually go to Best Chevrolet in Hingham since its close. Whatever you do never go to Mclaughlin in Whitman they are the worst.

My 2003 ZO6 just got back from the dealer. At 9000 miles, the 5th to 6th gear syncro went, all the shift pads were cracked and the shift forks were bent. I discovered on ZO6Vette.com that alot of owners have experienced the same or similar problem in the first 10,000 miles. All was fixed under warrenty, and now drives perfect. I wonder if these type of problems, have anything to do with the recall? Here is a post from ZO6Vette.com

Update *** All 6 speeds MN6 & M12 will have Steel Forks & improved syncro's ***

This was posted by Zippy in the GS section under Z16 pictures.

Then FRC Tom Commented that later 03's already had steel forks.

It is obvious GM knows there is a problem with their tranny's.

My question was if this could be upgraded under warranty and when did they start using steel forks?
