Bought some Zoops brackets for my rebuild.

I've had nothing but problems since I bought them, they look GREAT but they don't fit. I installed the PS bracket and it fit great ( more on this in a minute) I also installed the alternator bracket, to bad the belts don't fit with each of these on.

They look great on the motor, don't try to place a belt on this.

Back to the Stock Bracket, no way to make the Zoops play together

Pulleys don't line up, block for mount is in the way on the PS pump

Ignore the belt placement, sawsalls are my friends :L, cut the end off the Zoops PS mount so I could clear the belt for the alternator

Finally got everything lined up, not easy but expensive........had to modify the Zoops PS mount stuff, move the pump backwards. The instructions said that you need a triple pulley system...........BS, I'm using 2 it it kills me ;)

Now have to measure the belts and get everything connected. This was a pain in the you know where. Funny I was "told" that Zoops would fit an 81 vette..........the alternator bracket(s) that I bought put the alternator about 2" above the air cleaner.............back to stock. Jesus I'm tired of 16 year olds telling me what will and won't fit, just to find out myself that it DOESN'T fit

BTW..................I've got some Zoops brackets for sale if you want them :eyerole

Cheers.

That's one good thing about rebuilding to stock with internal mods. It all goes back together the way you took it apart. Nice looking motor, without the oops, I mean Zoops.:w

I was wondering about the Zoops kit myself. I think you have the wrong alternator bracket. That looks like their inboard mount, on the Vette I think you need the outboard mount. Also you have the "short" water pump to worry about on the Vette. My problem is I have an old style AC Compressor 12 inches long and I'm not sure if their brackets will work for the AC. It does appear they do go with the 3 groove pulley on the Vette setup. Here's a pic of what I was looking at. Right now I'm thinking stock brackets and be done with it. Good luck on the install.

I actualy bought BOTH Zoops mounts for the alternator and neither of them work........stock works just fine, sand paper and some paint does wonders.

I wanted a cleaner look, hence the Zoops stuff but the fact that the alternator sat higher than the air cleaner went against everything. I have an Edelbrock RPM Air Gap intake, it won't fir under the stock hood, so when the alternator was higher than the air cleaner, I decided enough was enough. I'm already buying a new hood and had no idea how much higher I wanted or could go before I ran into problems with hood clearance again.

Let me know how your stuff works out.
Cheers.

I just saw this thread while looking for something else. I'd say that inboard mount would be just fine for stuffing a small block inside a '32 Ford hood. I looked at a lot of mounts and pulley systems for my truck and finally decided that grinding and polishing smooth the original cast iron truck alternator mount was the best way to go. I'll shoot it with some Eastwood titanium before it goes on for the final time. The P/S mount that finally got the job done I found under the hood of my wifes '81 so I ordered one from Zip for the truck. That leaves me with a stock 2 groove on the water pump, a '81 Corvette p/s pulley, a stock 2 groove on the crank with the '60s add on third groove pulley for the p/s pump. For now the second groove is empty but when I install A/C it will be there ready to go.

I'm sure there is a way to assemble that Zoops kit so it works but obviously not in a Corvette.

guess I would be upset if mine looked like the zoops. I did notice that the installed picture shows the solid mount in towards the motor, but the picture whiplash presents shows the adjustable part of the mount towards the motor. I was considering zoops, as right now it is all reworked stock.

I got my alt. mount from Summit. It looks great and was fairly cheap--about $60.00. No problem with fitup either. Just got the stock P/S pump brkt. chromed. The only problem I had with clearance was because I'm running a Pro Form electric water pump and it's a little bigger than stock. I solved that with an underdrive crank pulley from Summit also. About $95.00. For the A/C belt clearance I used an idler pulley from a serpentine belt setup and mounted it to the A/C brkt with a long bolt and spacer so it pushes the belt down slightly from the backside and keeps it away from the water pump. I can't post any pics for two reasons. # 1-I don't know how, and #2-I'm in Siberia working for probably another week or two and I'm on a company computer.

Actually it's not too bad yet. It's only snowed a couple of times and it is just below freezing right now. Give it a couple of months and it will be about -50C here. Thats about -65 or so F. THAT'S COLD!!!!!!!!! Actually, I'm considering taking a job over here. I would get 6 months off a year. I might be able to deal with that.
