ZR1rim needs polished

i found a zr1 rim that they say is stripped and needs polished what does that mean can i do the work myself any help appr.

I just had my '92 rims polished,cost me $300.00(Can.).I heard you can never get the job done as well as a professional,something to do with using many different levels or sanding grains or something.....Mine came out beautiful..:cool ....Gotta have these on now.
