This motor has always shown 80 ibs. pressure on startup and almost the same after warm up. Regardless of oil temp it cruises at about 80 lbs, I've verified that the gage is correct by installing another direct reading pressure gage.

Sounds good but when I pull the valve covers with the engine running it never sprays oil from the pushrods at all, just a trickle. There's always oil running back into the lifter galley but it just doesn't seem like it's right. I remember pulling covers off my old 283 motor and it would spray oil onto the fenders. I've heard others comment on the same high oil pressure but never anything on flow.

Sounds like a high volumne oil pum p or someone has streetched the spring in the original pump to pump high volume. Replace with a new correct pump and it should stop all the spray.

Thanks for the reply......guess I didn't do a good job of explaining in my original post. I'm concerned about the lack of volume of oil. I was comparing it to my past experience with the old 283 small blocks that would pump oil all over the fenders at idle and this motor just dribbles oil. I purchasd the motor new from GM, it's the original oil pump.

It dribbles oil with the valve covers off? and has 80lbs of pressure? We used to have to put special clips on to stop oil from shooting all over the fenders.

My point exactly!! I wondered if others with this same motor have looked at the flow rates.

What rocker arms are you using? Some Roller Rockers direct oil straight down into the rocker and not onto the top of the valve cover.

They're Comp Cam p/n 1301-16, 1.52's. Someone told me recently that I'm worried for nothing, that too much oil on top is not a good thing. But it sure doesn't look like the rollers get much.......... at idle anyway.
