my car started making a squeeking noise from my rear passenger wheel, goes away when i stop giving it gas. its pretty loud, sounds like a suspension part or a brake part maybe? any ideas? its a high pitched rubbing/squeeking sound that gets faster as my rear wheel spins but stops when i let off the gas... car is a 92 with 86k

U-Joints?

The 1st place I would look is the half-shaft U-joints. The seals may have cracked and let the grease out. Dry joints make make a very noticeable squeaking sound particularly at low speeds.

thanks ill look into that< i guess i shouldnt really drive it like that huh? lol

Well... The annoying squeak would eventually turn into an even less attractive clucking sound but that will only last until the half-shaft falls out. Then I'm pretty sure it will quite down.:chuckle

Squeeking U-Joints

I have an '87 that has done right on 82k.. I just replaced my halfshaft u-joints last weekend - I wasn't looking forward to it but it wasn't near as involved as I expected. It did start with a squeek in sequence with wheel rotation then turned to a bad clunk real quick as JGrck said. Just make sure you replace them with units that have grease nipples (originals have none) and insert the new joints so that the nipples face inward to the centre of the shafts so you can reach them next time you service them. I checked this link out before I started. Hope this helps mate.

Make sure your brakes pads are in good condition before you spend money on axle and suspension parts. The low pad indicators can make the same type of noise that you are describing.

Hi Shano, That was a super thread. I don't have the facility to take on such a job but I'm sure it will be a great help to others. Well done.....Roger.

Heavy duty U-joints are sealed and don't have the grease fittings. The hole drilled in the standard duty joints for the fitting actually weakens them. The difference in strength probably doesn't matter that much if your not launching the thing on a regular basis though.
