Hi ....Has anyone ever bypassed the aux fan temp sensor and set to fan to run all the time ?? I was thinking of connecting direct to alternator with a in-line 30a fuse . Dont like the idea that the fan comes on at 238 ..figured its easier to keep something cool rather than cool it down AFTER it heats up ...Any thoughts on this ?? pros/cons ??
Thanks ,Neal

Car is at painters now ...think I'll try it when i get it back ...unless someone advises against it ...and i'll let you know if I blow anything up;LOL

When I was having issues with my AC, a shop I took the car to did just that, hard wired the aux fan. I hated it. First, it didn't properly fix the AC (I ended up buying gauges and doing it myself) and secondly, that fan is designed to run not only if you get too hot, but when the AC is turned on. If you're getting that hot without the AC on, maybe there are other issues that should be addressed. If everything is in place and working right, proper thermostat, fan and fan clutch, hood seal, radiator is good etc., you should be good.

I'm running about 210 in summer ..with a 50/50 mix everything is good otherwise except I'm missing the lower spoiler/air deflector....too low for my driveway incline .I was just thinking ....keep it cool rather than cool it down

That thermostat are you running right now? The factory one is a 195F, you can always go to a lower 180F. I think the same thing will work for the aux. fan. It has a sensor on the right side of the engine. Change the sensor to a lower temperature so the fan will be put to work at a lower temp. :)

Greetings Peter

That lower air defelctor makes all the difference. I learned that when I lived in sunny So Cal! It doesn't sit any lower than the support that's in the middle of the front end now (it's a thin metal piece dead center...). It's urethane like the bumper, so it's soft and has rubber pieces that are like a "skirt" under that. I'd opt for that fix first. I'd bet your temps come down to around 180 or so.

Peter,

That's a good idea, but that particular sensor is different and doesn't come in different temps that I'm aware of. Instead of suppling a ground when you reach temp like a typical temp sensor, this thing completes the circuit on the hot side at temp providing power to the fan.

Here in the Tucson heat temp gauge shows about 180 or so all the time. I have a 180 thermostat and no A/C.....never hooked it back up after the engine rebuild. Usually drive with the T-tops out anyways.

Put a 180 thermostat in there and let the belt drive fan do the job it is supposed to do. Oh and get the front air deflector...it makes alot of difference.

Have fun.

With the lower air dam in place, along with all the seals around the radiator, forces the air flow thru the radiator instead of around it!and provides cooler temps when enjoying our vettes!!!!:upthumbs:upthumbs
