The right headlight decided to defey its control and remain up, a short time later it started working again. The problem moved to the left side same thing. Removed the three relays and cleaned the contacts where liquid electrical tape was used and had gumed up both headlight relays. Re-installed had same problem with left headlight, then switched relays to see if problem moved it did not, left headlight still will not close. The gears are working fine since being replaced by the brass gears. Any help would be appreciated.............COULD THIS VEHICLE BE POSSESSED?? thanks!!

Well first off "Welcome to CAC". As to the 'possession', it probably is possessed. :L When i first started reading your post I thought....classic gear damage. But then i read it all and noticed that you have already changed the gears out. Maybe GMJunkie will find this thread and give you suggestion. Jesse you got your ears on?

If that don't fix it the brushes in the motor are probly worn out. :thumb:thumb

Junk, have you really seen worn out brushes? From the looks of the brushes in my '84, they should last well past a million miles! These motors only run for a few seconds at a time!

Twe, do you have an early '87? These headlight motors have the manual control knobs on the bottom of the motors. They changed in late '87 to different motors, which have the knobs on the top. If you've got the early set-up, did you use a light weight grease (like Lubriplate) on the motor shafts when you put in the new gears? These motor armatures need to slide in their bearings to actuate the limit switches. Sounds to me like something's stuck inside the assembly.
