water dump leaked on 1994 base LT1 optispark - need advice what is best brand to buy for long term from those that have done this. thank you!!!!!!!!!! have water pump already to go in.

If it were me, I'd go with the MSD.

I don't have an engine with an "Optispark" distributor, but I do have other engines which use MSD parts. I have an MSD distributor in my Big-Block along with other MSD parts in the engines of my other three Vettes. I've always had good performance from them. While MSD is not what I'd term low-priced, they are not over-priced and are good values becuase of their performance and durability.

your so kind to reply

I'm hearing MSD, e.g. ABITS, and "Petris Enterprises" that sells a vented version with Mitsubishi guts

thank you

You have experience of an Optispark replacement ? Can't tell what is best from the car craft article

Back when I had my 94, I replaced with a Delco Opti. Within a year I started having problems, "It can't be the Opti, I just replaced it with 'good' parts". Guess what it was? I chased that problem for weeks, even had the resident masters here scratching their heads. Ended up, the Delco cap was crap. I bought an MSD and had it installed and never had another problem with it to the day I sold it. Go MSD!

thanks much

Before installing water pump, modify the water pump by drilling and tapping weep hole for a hose barb, then route rubber hose from hose barb down to below engine block. That way, if the water pump should blow a seal in the future, the resultant water will not hit the Opti..

PS search all the forums about the Opti reliability from the various sources.. apparently experience / opinions vary widely..:ugh

Cheers
