DETROIT – The performance of the all-new, 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 establishes it as one of the most capable vehicles on the market – and one of the few to achieve sub-3-second 0-60 performance and a sub-11-second quarter-mile time.

“The Corvette has long been known as America’s sports car,” said Mark Reuss, General Motors’ executive vice president, Global Product Development. “With the capability of the new Z06 rivaling the best performance cars in the world, we will also be America’s Supercar.”

The Corvette Z06 accelerates from a rest to 60 mph in only 2.95 seconds when equipped with the all-new, available eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission – and achieves it in 3.2 seconds with the standard seven-speed manual transmission.

A quarter-mile sprint takes just 10.95 seconds with the eight-speed automatic and 11.2 seconds with the seven-speed manual. With both versions, the Corvette Z06 hits 127 mph at the end of the quarter-mile.

When it comes to braking performance, the Z06 can stop from 60 mph in only 99.6 feet. That’s the best braking performance of any production car GM has ever tested. Additionally, the Corvette Z06 achieves 1.2 g in lateral acceleration compared with the Corvette’s previous best 1.13 g.

The new Z06 is also the fastest production car ever tested at GM’s 2.9-mile Milford Road Course, beating the record set by the Corvette ZR1 by a full second.

All test results were achieved with Z06 coupes fitted with the Z07 Performance package, which adds Brembo carbon ceramic brake rotors and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. The Z07 package also features the most aggressive aerodynamic package available on the Corvette Z06, which delivers the most downforce of any production car GM has ever tested.

“The defining aspect of driving the Z06 is seamless integration of power, technology and aerodynamics,” said Tadge Juechter, Corvette chief engineer. “As a result, the Z06 delivers ferocious acceleration, tenacious handling, and high-speed stability that few cars can match.”

It is the first Corvette Z06 with a supercharged engine – SAE certified at 650 horsepower and 650 lb-ft of torque – and the first with an available eight-speed paddle-shift automatic transmission. Performance-enhancing Magnetic Ride Control and Performance Traction Management are standard, and the award-winning, industry-first Performance Data Recorder is available.

The 2015 Corvette Z06 coupe goes on sale in in early 2015 priced at $78,995, while the Z06 convertible goes on sale in the second quarter, priced at $83,995.

When did you ever think you'd see an automatic outperform a stick shift?

Great time but still sad that the 2015 Hellcat beats it and for almost $20K less.

From Motor Trend's test of the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat:
0-60 mph time of 4.1 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 12 seconds at 117 mph. Dodge says the best time it achieved was 11.2 seconds on the quarter mile with street tires...

I don't see how Dodge's over-sized land yacht beats the Z06??
 
Let's see the z06 with the same drag radials before we get carried away here.
Do you know the Z06 spun the tires? If not then drag radials won't make a difference. With a 2.9 60 it's doubtful it spun much if any.

I didn't see the 60 time? Of course, I haven't driven the new z06 or the Dodge. I have owned a blown c5 making the same hp as a zr1, 638. with only about 430 ft.lbs of torque. I can tell you that there was at least a half second difference between stock and stick drag radials. Yes, I had wheel spin with the stock tires as I was rowing a 6 speed. But there has to be a reason that Dodge shaved .4 off the quarter with drag radials over stock tires, no?

Of course there is a reason. The Dodge was spinning the tires, the Z06 was not or very little. Like I said if both were holding traction then drag radials wouldn't make any difference. In this case the Dodge was not holding traction so .4 better with drag radials.

Actually, I say the Corvette would come out ahead. It weighs about 900 pounds less than the Dodge so the HP/Weight ratio is 6.2 for the Dodge and 5.3 for the Corvette. That's a mighty large difference! I'm sure we'll see soon enough.

I based my statement on links posted. So far the Dodge has put up the best time.

All I know is I have owned a 638 hp vette and there is a world of difference between a stock tire and a drag radial, which is designed to last 5000 miles and which would never be on a stock car which is mass produced. Hence the big difference in the Dodge land yacht. Comparing apples to apples, on stock tires which was the choice of the manufacturer, z06 won. And where is your comparative road course times and lateral g figures for the Dodge land yacht? The Corvette is a sports car, not just a muscle straight line car.

Oh. Ok. I think using drag radials might improve the time just as much as the Dodge, because of the weight difference. The biggest difference on the track between stock tires, just about whatever the brand is, and say M/T drag radials, is the ability to launch under a greater rpm and keep traction. For that reason, I think it is reasonable to believe that the z06 can also shave .4 seconds from a quarter time. Of course, you are absolutely correct, much depends on the skill of the driver, track conditions, temperature, humidity, etc. etc. etc. But the human factor is far less with an automatic transmission than with a stick.

On drag radials which are not stock. Put drag radials on a Volkswagen bug, and it will produce better numbers than stock tires.
