The radio (Bose CD/Cass) in my Corvette does not pick up as well as my other cars. I know the antenna is doing something because it does pickup better up than down (I have a override switch to keep it down for CDs). I have cleaned the ground wire, even tried adding another ground wire. Any ideas what to check next?

Thanks

You cut the wire from the radio to the antenna that sends power to the relay that makes it go up and add an inline switch. Then when you turn the radio on you can keep the antenna from rising.

dburgjohn, I have heard (though not sure if this is an urban legend) that since vettes are mostly fiberglass, the reception on the radio is not as good. I have had 3 vettes (2 C3s and 1 C4), all 3 had issues with reception, not as good as my daily drivers. You may want to purchase a signal booster.

The 92 also has set of ground plane wires that are attached to the mast that you could check. I replaced my antenna with the kit from Mid.Am. and noticed a difference in the reception after running these wires correctly.

Mid America also sells the switch/harness for an antenna override that plugs in at the receiver so you don't have to cut anything for under $20.

Switch from Radio Shack....2.00
Crimp connectors...............0.50
satisfaction of having done the job yourself

PRICELESS

Stu, what wires are you talking about running correctly. Is that the ground wires. I replaced my antenna mast and not getting as good as reception... and not anywhere my 2007 rental car is getting (even before replacing antenna).

Are Vettes just prone to poor reception. Can i replace or upgrade the receiver? I do not have Bose system.
