What, color was the underside of the hood painted? I have the hood off my '76', to change an a/c hose, and just thought I would go ahead and paint it. Right now its mostly over spray from the ext paint job but it looks like it may have been flat black at one time. Thanks

Saw this photo some where ...
Maybe give you some ideas of what can be done ...
good luck ..

Originally the underside of the hood was blacked-out with flattened black lacquer - same paint that was used to black out the firewall and inner fenders. :)

WOW mine won't look like that, the top side of my hood does not look that good!

Best example i've seen is a fellow 82CE Buddy, runs as HER82 here, his name is Gerry..

From his Gallery.. :

Paint it to match or compliment

Steph:

Thanks for the compliment. My opinion. . . If it is not an NCRS Car paint it "Gloss Something". Either to Match the exterior color scheme (as I did) or Compliment, as with the photo eariler in this thread.

I like the Sleeper style (low key) exterior with a lot of "bling" under the hood.

But hey . . . it's all good!

Gerry

PS: I haven't forgotten about the radio, it is still yours. I'll send you a PM

Great looking car, and great idea on the paint I will try and post pics of what I do.

I just painted mine flat black since most of it is covered with insulation. If it was a car that I wanted to show, I would spend more time and money on it. Alreadty spending enough money and time on it, but enjoying it!

Going to paint mine ..and nix the insulation .....
apparently the insulation is just for sound reducing anyway ...

My '76 came from the factory with black overspray underneath the contoured yellow fiberglass mat.

I looked at mine and after this disucssion I have decided to remove the mat and paint it flat black then put the mat backon. I love some of the pic's here and would love to paint mine the same color as the car but don't have the skill to do that, besides I am going to get the whole car painted next year may have the underside of the hood done then. Thanks for all the good info.

Ok, I said I would post a pic so here it is, not near as sweet as the other pic's here maybe someday. Still has a little touch up but it had to go back on today because today was the day my buddies came by to help.

Hood looks good! I went ahead and painted the windshield wiper area for you. No charge since I should have painted it flat like the hood!:L

Just messin with you!;) I'm going to do my hood like yours. I never thought about it until I saw your post. I have painted my windshield wiper area though--it looks a whole lot better!

Hey thanks, it needed it :D. I am going to touch up the sides of the hood a little and also the wiper area.
I just purchased a brand new 08 today so thats got me pretty excited but I do have the 76 entered in a show for the 13th so got to get it cleaned up some more. Let me know how yours comes out.

you might consider changing the coolant overflow tank to a new one..it makes a world of difference in the underhood appearance with a new white one in there.. trust me.
