Downgrade to Upgrade

Well, just had to log in and brag somewhere!!! I finially pulled the trigger. I decided to trade my 95 LT1 for a 1990 ZR-1, lost a few things but gained a whole lot more. Just drove it home today......WOW what an engine!!!

Yes... would be the numbers after the 8 in the VIN...take a peak at this link>>

For 1990 you would have a L where the P is shown in the VIN in the link.. next 5 for Bowling Green (ZR-1s were assembled there but the LT5 engine was made by MerCruiser in Stillwater OK) and then 8XXXXX... so mine would read 800566

We are close... would you check to verify something... we think the steel half shafts on the ZR-1 were changed to aluminum at #622 so could you verify you have steel half shafts like these (pics from my ZR)>>>

Obvious 'rust' appearance...steel half shafts are actually good...weigh more but seem to be sturdier

Thanks for verifying...and plz understand that my ZR has about 2100 miles on it...was one of those collector cars that sold at Barret Jackson in Palm Beach in 2006...I am the 3rd owner and have put a lot into it for purpose of NCRS judging...this is nothing to do with those who simply want a ZR and enjoy the hell out of driving it you are on a great adventure with this car and just do what you want with it.

I see it as an opportunity to "live". Congrats

I really see the 90-95 ZR-1 as the next 67 big block cars. Right now ZR-1s are bargains. Wish I had the money to buy up every one I could find.

Yes, you are exactly right. I went from an LT1 to LT5 motor, auto to six speed, No ride control to FX3, 2:59 axle to 3:45, stock exhaust to Borla, sawblade wheels to ZR1 wheels. It was a no-brainer! Yes, I think this motor will be very desirable in a few years.

I am gathering production date info...and saw your 90 ZR is #312 and my 90 ZR is #566. Here is what I have detailed about my ZR thus the interest in what you know about your ZR:

On my 1990 ZR-1 (#566) build sheet there are two date references:
SCHED. NO. DATE 0105917

DATE: 89/297
TIME: 12:37

The second number sequence group would be 89 for 1989 and 297 for the 297th day of the year which would be 10/24/89...yet on the lower left inside hood is a grease pencil marking 10 27 89A (which according to NCRS types is the build completion date).

Assume build sheet was issued (thus start of production) on 10/24/89 and car finished production 10/27/89. While replacing the fuel injectors this winter I found engraved into the oil baffle plate the engine build date 10 7 89 and initials BK which I assume is Bill Kepple who was one of the LT5 master engine builders>>

The ZR-1 was recorded into dealer stock on 11/20/89 (that date and dealer stock number is in grease pencil on the upper underside of hood) and sold 11/21/89 (have the original bill of sale)... so it took about 25 days to leave BG and arrive to the St. Petersburg FLA dealership (Maher Chevrolet)

i still havent decided if i missed the boat or made a good choice on a ZR1 that was for sale here in town a little over a year ago.... i know it was a fast car but i also know the owner and both him his wife and his wifes boyfriendotfl beat the crap out of that car from the day they picked it up, i know it had body work at least twice and who knows what they did to the engine whoopin on it like it owed them money! i almost took a chance on it but waited a little too long...
