Seems to be some Debate on the "Other Forum" to as if it is better for ones fuel pump, as far as longevity, if it's submeged in fuel or not. Like never going below 1/2 Tank to keep it in Cool Fuel?

What's the scoop on this issue?

It is true that the pumps depend on fuel for cooling, but the cooling doesn't only occur from imersion. It, also, occurs by fuel flowing though the pump.

Never going below a half is unreasonable and impractical. It's a good bet that the pump met it's durability targets at lower fuel levels.

I think going below a sixth to an eighth of a tank on a regular basis is to be avoided.

I have always run it till empty and do a total fill. I have yet to replace pumps because of that. I replaced a pump because I wanted a bigger one when I dropped the tank on my 91 Firebird. Did that in 04, IIRC. Other pumps I have replaced don't count because they are out of tank style.

IMO, you're ok to let the tank run low (1/8 to 1/4 tank), but do not let it get so low that you run out of gas. The short period of time that the pump could be running with no fuel may be harmful to the pump.

So the question is...how confident are you in the accuracy of the gas gauge of a 15 or 20 y/o car? Is it worth it to let the tank run down to 1/8 tank or lower?

Cajun C4, whats the deal with your vettes? Why are they bone stock? Didn't you have a seriously modded 84 vette?:confused
