Door speaker covers

How do you remove the speaker covers on the doors??

Per manual:

"Remove the door trim panel. Refer to Trim Panel Replacement - Door .
Straighten the speaker grille tabs.
Remove the grille from the trim panel. "

It looks like the metal grille is tabbed over rather than snapped in. So the panel must come off to avoid messing up the grille. Conversely you cant put it back in unless you tab over from the inside.
