    Strange timing issue

Lol. Yes, I get open and closed loop backwards sometimes. :P I'll do a quick overview for the TLDNR. Stumbling and backfire under load. Replaced: Injectors Distro cap and rotor Primary coil Pick-up coil Spark plugs No codes I have plugged it into a logger and all sensors are reporting correctly.

    Strange timing issue

Well, the pick up coil did help. Same symptoms. However, I have confirmed something. Every time I do a computer reset by disconnecting the battery, the car run great for the first 30 seconds of driving. It seems like when it goes into open loop, it starts running like crap. I have gone thru the...

    Strange timing issue

Oh, believe me, the grease pencil is my friend here. I have dealt with timing this thing before and I don't like it. :P

    Strange timing issue

Lol. Sorry Ned. When I'm frustrated, I shorten everything. Distro = distributor. I have a stock HEI. Basically, I've done a lot of maintenance to the vehicle. Consider it 50K mile maintenance. I did this just to get rid of as many question marks as I could. Cap, rotor and plugs. I replaced the...

    Strange timing issue

I will have to take it back to my mech to use his data logger. I threw in a new primary coil and it's the same issue, so I'm looking at the pick-up coil and the ignition coil now. Everything in my brain tells me this is a spark/timing issue. That just what it sounds like. I'll order a new FSM...

84 starting problem. What is this part? See pic

Clean terminals are your friend. I had a problem once were the bolt for the negative battery terminal was corroded. I took a dremmel with a wire wheel and cleaned it up. Problem solved. Also, jack the car up and remove the fly-wheel dust cover and watch the starter engauge. The solenoid might...

    Strange timing issue

You would test VDC if you were testing it while running. However, you can do a bench test with it disconnected and removed from the car. You test A-B or B-C and test it the same way as you test volts, but checking OHMs instead. TPS Diagnostics I don't have a factory service manual anymore. It...

    Strange timing issue

Well, problem. I was looking at it in standard ohms, not Kohms. It shows a smooth change thru the sweep. It seems to be about 1.5 Kohms below what it should be thru the whole sweep, but since the ECM calibrates it right off the bat, it shouldn't matter. As long as it sees the smooth change. I'll...

    Strange timing issue

Took out the TPIS chip and ran the car. Still bad. In fact, even worse. Then... I did the simple check. What I should have done from the beginning. Test the Throttle Position sensor. Open. Completely open. So, the computer thinks that the throttle is always at idle. So, when I hit the gas, it...

    Strange timing issue

Well, just to ensure proper firing and fuel, I threw a tester in line with all of the plugs and they all look the same. Maybe a bit weak, but spark is definitely there. I also replaced the fuel injectors. So, here is the strange thing. Every time I do something to it (especially when I unplug...

    Strange timing issue

No check engine light when running and yes, to does come on when starting. That is what is really killing me. I'm guessing that the control voltage that pushes the advance is not getting to the distro. Where is that signal and what should it look like. I can't find this info anywhere, and I mean...

    Strange timing issue

Background on the car: ZZ4 Edelbrock heads TPIS Miniram TPIS stage 3 tune I'm not 100% sure if this is even a timing issue, but it sounds like one. Under acceleration, it bumbles, bucks and misses. It isn't pinging. If I lightly hold down the accelerator, it happens for a couple of seconds...

    Very strange electrical issue

Yes. The VATS system. However, if this was the problem the car just wouldn't start, it wouldn't cause power failure. It disconnects the ground on the starter allow relay so it won't actuate.

    Very strange electrical issue

Wow, no replies at all? huh. Anyways, I found out what the issue was. I wired a 10 gauge jumper from pin-30 (primary power) on the starter allow relay to the start pin on the starter itself. She started up with zero issue. No delay, no jump. Just a good start. That means that the purple...

    Very strange electrical issue

I really need some help with this one. I'm a little burnt out on this issue. I'll start with the previous problem and my fix that might have caused the major issue. I have had a lot of delay starts recently. The starter would extend the starter, but it would take half a second for it to...
