    Odd Behavior - Any Theories?

Yikes!!! I guess I'll quite messing around with it and get it fixed. It was pretty temperamental today driving it.... almost died twice.

    Odd Behavior - Any Theories?

Thanks everyone for your post. The tachometer problem stopped altogether - was just something weird that day and the behavior has minimized but I do agree with everyone's suggestions. I will tell you my negative terminal on the battery is semi-stripped... I was able to get it tight but...

    Odd Behavior - Any Theories?

Hi Folks. I've got some weird behavior going on. Tried to search but didn't find any threads. Three things are happening, which lead me to think it might be electrical but everything else is operating fine, and the car is running fine otherwise. 1. My RPM gauge is way off when I'm driving 2...

OEM or Stainless Steel Frame Mount Bolts?

Question - these really are for my 71 camaro but certainly applies to any frame-off restoration. It seems one can get "stainless steel" frame bolts for A LOT more money than the OEM black oxidized, grade 8 frame bolts. This is especially true for my 71 camaro where its a sub-frame car THUS...

    Water In Oil - HELP

The first head gasket replacement was not because of overheating... it just spring a leak because of electrolysis and the factory not putting on the correct type of head gasket to buffer against that. I guess this was a common problem. That leak was out the back toward the firewall. I did not...

    Water In Oil - HELP

Thanks guys! I'm gonna pull the plugs first today and see what story they tell. The more I think about it the more I'm remembering some other things... like rough idling (although the car has been running great). Makes me think more and more it might be a cracked head. I've never done a...

    Water In Oil - HELP

I have wired my fans to run all the time... living in Tucson with summer heat around 115 degrees you have to do this so the car doesn't normally get above 180 BUT I did overheat it once about a year ago. I also put an oversized aluminum 4 row radiator in it so got the cooling covered. But with...

How do you test the oil cooler?

Thanks... that is good to know. Someone messaged me and said its unlikely to be the oil cooler because there is more pressure in the oil system than the water system... which makes sense. I have a feeling this isn't my issue but it might be worth testing like you said so thanks!

Question: 87 Running out - Oil turning milky / oil in coolant

I started a thread today with the same issue. Here is my question about the compression check - How can a compression check differentiate between a blown gasket and a head/block crack? I just replaced my head and intake gaskets 30,000 miles ago so likely this is not my problem... I did...

How do you test the oil cooler?

How do I test an oil cooler to see if there is some kind of breach inside it potentially causing water to get in my oil? Can these actually be tested? Do they fail and cause this to happen often? I highly doubt it but want to rule simple things out before going to gaskets and/or a potential...

    Water In Oil - HELP

Actually I just read this could be a failure of the oil cooler itself.... has anyone had that happen? I guess if that has happened I would have oil in my coolant too, yes? Also, just an FYI, it has NOT been sucking water from the overflow (despite me putting a new radiator cap on it) which...

    Water In Oil - HELP

Well, my worst fears are confirmed - there is definitely water in my oil. Don't you just love it when you pull the drain plug and the milky mess comes out. I put new head gaskets on the car about 20,000 miles ago - at that time the head gasket on driver's side was leaking out the back toward...

    1991 smog pump

Believe it or not, O'Reilly Auto (the old Checker Auto). Only one of their stores in town had it. I even had called around to see if anyone could rebuild the one I had and no one was willing! Sheesh! I also called Ecklers and explained my situation but they had no idea what I was talking...

    1991 smog pump

No need. I don't need a picture. I know exactly what the problem is (besides the varying bolt hole sizes)... its the surface where the tube bolts up. On the ones I've tried its about 1/4 inch thicker and that makes that tube not bolt up because it hits the water neck. I have to find the...
