Could the fuel be draining back down from the carb? Does pumping the gas a bunch before cranking it cause it to start?

Well, it appears that I have a bad rectifier. One of the diodes is loose. I was confused at first b/c one of them was giving readings intermitently. After awhile, I figured out that my VOM probes were causing the contact to wiggle enough to have the diode in contact occasionally. So...

Well, atleast I'm getting good at taking apart the alternator. I will crack her open and see if I can find the bum diode.

I checked the 3 diodes in the diode trio. I took out the battery and brought it to the autostore and had it tested... It failed after charging for 40min, so I bought a new one. Unfortunately, this did not solve the problems. My multimeter shows ~28-30 ACV across the battery with the...

My multimeter indicated that the voltage drop across each of the diodes is approximately .6V. Switching the leads showed 0 and that the diode is not shorted.
