Found a solid guy who has fixed the tilt and short problem a number of times, he claims he can do it for $80, so I plan to let him try! Will let everyone know what I find.
Thanks again for all the assist.
LLC5 - thanks for the guidance I may have the tilt tightened up first and see if that fixes it, that is a relatively straight forward fix and hopefully it does the trick.
Will update everyone once I get it started!
Wow, I have no clue how to look for that one, this has to be within the steering column? I have had the wheel off years ago when I replaced it, will need to look for the puller.
All good thoughts, I drove it around again this afternoon, no problems, which of course is even more annoying!
I will take a look at trying to tighten it up and see if there is anything obvious before I start feeding wires back up through the column.
Thanks guys.
Hi, hoping someone has seen this, no luck searching. In my 85, the tilt wheel has play in it, and when I push down on it, I get an electrical problem:Parking brake light comes on
Radio goes off
Windows won't work
HVAC fan inoperable
If I push up on the steering wheel or leave the tilt all the...
Many, many thanks to everyone again for all their help, I (finally) got around to adjusting the idle today. After I adjusted the IAC trick, then I did get the TPS to go above 4 volts, holy crap what a difference at WOT. Never been able to turn the back tires, now I have to let off to go, huge...
Does anyone have an image of the idle adjust screw? I have searched and the one on my throttle body has a screw that has seizing compound on it and I don't think is correct (I do have an aftermarket, cannot recall the brand). Will take a picture this evening when I get home.
Thanks everyone...
Wow, CAC comes through as always. I have a lot to work on this weekend now, another thread reminded me I never set the IAC after I installed it, just slammed it in with the new throttle body and went to town...
I will be back with updates, thanks to all for the insight
Jeff
PCV valve is good, it was new 2 years ago and shakes well, may give it a shot though, like you said it is a cheap fix if that is the problem.
I have not checked the FI, not sure I would know what to check, is it individual checks or a common feed? Any help is appreciated, thanks.
I also...
1985 corvette - idle problems. Hi, I am out of ideas, I have changed the TPS (voltage perfect at .054 idle, 4.0 at WOT), the IAC, new throttle body last year, new Bosch MAF this year, and cannot get it resolved. The car will not idle when cold, and will search when warm in Drive and drop low...
Appreciate the link, will need to put my comments in once I get the part and ensure it is correct. One of the reasons I looked them up was they are selling on eBay, have over 25k in feedback and very little negative, most of it whining IMO. When I spoke with one of the reps, he personally...
Yes, the shaft bearings are worn, I have to butterfly the accelerator to drop the idle down, been that way for 7 years since I bought it.
I found one at CNC Motorsports in South Dakota for $161 and they shipped it 2 days for $20, includes an air foil so I ordered it yesterday. Hopefully the...
Was wondering if anyone has any experience with this manufacturer, their parts are about half the other aftermarket throttle body costs, let me know if you have heard of them and any thoughts on the quality.
I plan to order a replacement TB for my 85, I managed to break off the IAC when trying...
Thanks again for your help, once I had an angle where I could see the cable without just feeling around, the replacement went very easy. I also did replace the throttle cable since I had one, feels like a whole new ride now!

Mr C - thanks for the offer, I am fairly close, although my biggest pain point right now is how to change the cable off the pedal, any ideas? It looks like a plastic clip goes over the opening at the top of the pedal, but I cannot see that far up...
