There is little you can do.
Even if you obtain spot on advice via the internet, bringing the word of a stranger to a professional really ticks them off.
Discuss the work.
Evaluate what they intend to do for you, and confirm price and warranty information.
Just curious. What was their reply when...
Sounds like it could be a VATS issue.
Clean the key well with alcohol. Wait 10 minutes from the last time you turned the key and see what happens.
If no improvement, try your spare key. Most times, cleaning the key works.
Be sure he replaces the governor gear during the overhaul. If the car is not shifting out of first, and it has sufficent line pressure (from the tv system, this trans has no kickdown cable). Governor valve (sticking) or gear stripping is a common problem on any 700r4 that sits alot. Hopefully...
Yup. We have been upgrading L-98 engines for 26 years. There is not a whole lot left to discover, but there is 26 years worth of info out there that simply involves clicking the search button, and researching.
If I understand you correctly, they have provided a price for likely repairs, before performing the diagnostic procedures?
If so, run from this shop.
Their ethics sound questionable.
How anyone can throw a number at something without any clue as to what has tested bad suggests to me they were...
I sure am.
I holed a piston last year, just before I was to rip out the normal trans, and install the hybrid.
Rather than fix the 383, I had a 406 bullet on the stand.
Workin on the tune up now.
Once it is good to go, I will baseline it, swap it out, and document the result.
If it doesn't work...

My advice is to locate an 88-93 core, and re-install the valve body...
I know I am digging this thread up from the basement, but things have changed a bit since this thread was created.
There is an aftermarket 6 pinion planetary gearset avaiable now for the 700r4/4l60/4l60e/4l65e.
I did purchase it, and do a build up for my 87, but have not yet installed the trans...
Wide range of price, depending on what quality parts you buy.
$1000-$2200 is the approximate price range of a 383 balanced rotating assembly.
$800 is the approximate cost to clean, re-machine, and re-clean a bare block for the rotating assembly.
Most guys get a few hundred dollars to tear an...
Vette valve bodies (and police cars) contain a unique valve that will allow the trans to shift into 4th geat (with throttle wide open).
That valve was available from GM, but is discontinued. Old stock on this valve is completely gone from GM, and all of their US dealerships. I know this to be...
