Why not. It's about time technology played a bigger role in the Corvette's engine. Twin turbos, DFI, etc. There is a lot of potential there to leave it unused. I'm not so hung up on the number of cylinders as I am on the overall performance. Ferrari does some great things with smaller...
I just put 18 x 9.5 fronts and 19 x 11.0 rears with 275/35/18 fronts and 295/35/19 rears on my '99 C5. Nothing rubs anywhere/anytime and the active handling seems to accept this amount of F/R diameter stagger just fine even while autocrossing. You will be amazed how much better the ride and...
I would check to make sure if the wheels are clear coated, as the abrasive and chemicals in the polish will damage the clear coat. I tend to like the way Wenol or Mother's works on aluminum. Never tried a chrome polish.
If they are clear coated, soap and water and a mild wax will work well. :beer
I realize that is why there is no pressure reading on the DIC.
I'm just wondering why I don't get a code at each new key up. I think I remember C4C5 Specialist telling me that I should expect one. Thanks....Joe
I expected to get an error code on the DIC at each key up since I switched over to the new wheels without the TP sensors.
When I scroll through the DIC the tire pressure screens show the LF RF, LR RR with a blank (no dashed lines, no zeros) following each where the actual pressure readout...
SSR GT3 Wheel Pics
Here are the new wheels mounted on the car. So far, I can't say enough about them. Quality is great. Handling and ride is way better than the old run flats and the road noise with the top up has been reduced considerably.
The calipers were painted with Rustoleum Sunrise Red...
Here are the weights on the wheel and tire combo's-
OEM Magnesium Wheels and Goodyear Run Flats- F- 46 lb. R- 50 lb.
SSR GT3's and Michelin Pilots- F- 54 lb. R- 61 lb.
Not surprising, the bigger 18 and 19 inch wheels add some weight. The difference would probably be a few pounds less...
Just received the new SSR's from "The Tire Rack" I decided on 18x9.5 fronts and 19x11 rears with 275/35 Michelin Pilots up front and 295/35's out back. So far I have only trial fitted them and they look and fit great. My car is Pewter and the satin centers on the wheels look great against it...
C4C5,
Thank you for the information. Do you know if there is any way to disable the DIC warning
from coming up at each key insertion, or do I just have to live with it?
Thanks...Joe
Tire Rack does sell them to fit the C5. The sizes are 18x9.5 fronts and 19X11 rears with 275's up front and 295's out back. In some of their ads you can see a 50th anniversary model with the SSR GT3 satin's on. It looks good.
Good luck. I'm still deciding between those and the new CCW 19 inch...
I'm looking at fitting some track rims and tires on my '99 and was wondering what will I get on the DIC if I run them without active tire pressure sensors? Do you get an error code all the time? If so, any way to disable it?
Thanks in advance for your input!
...Joe
Nice Pic. I really like the way the front and rear fenders bulge out. Looks "Tougher" than my C5. I was pretty unimpressed with the white body shell shots. But I'm starting to like this.......
