The wires were on correctly. I got the old blower motor out today (the new one's on order). I was surprised when I saw that it was not the original. It has a manufacture date of February, 2001 on it. (I bought the car in 2006.) The impeller turned easily. So now I'm concerned that it might not...

OK, I did it and you were correct. I put in a new 30 amp fuse, unplugged both connections to the blower motor, turned on the ignition switch, turned on the blower switch, and the fuse DID NOT blow. Do you think this means it's time for a new blower motor ?

It did with mine because, I assume, there was enough voltage being pulled through the bad cable to get enough power to these low voltage accessories.
