I used this article to change my 92 opti to the vented version it works well 1 1/2 yrs now. Instead of modifying my new opti I purchased a 95/96 cap kit and used it they are interchangable.
I replaced my opti on my 92, It was backfiring and spark knocking, The job is not too bad you have to remove the damper pully and the water pump I replaced pump also. And plug wires while everything was open. I had about 500.00 in parts and a saturday. Hope this helps.

I also have a 92 when my comp went out they said it was r12 but when they started the work they it was really 134 gm tech line said they changed mid year maybe you will be lucky. beer
I have one of those shades from MAD they have plastic tabs that fit between the weather stripping not suction cups like the catalogue says hope this helps.

the kit is a small vacuum hose from optispark dist. vent hole to a one way check valve and moisture filter which as the car is running sucks out and traps any moisture and does not drain vacuum system while shut off.
