The year doesn't matter
Get a tape out and measure the width; either 9.5" all round or 8.5" fronts
The 9.5" takes 275 or 285 tire , 8.5" only takes a 255 ( some save $$ and fit 245's )
All Vettes from 89 - 92 had that size tire on the front from the factory , '93 and later base models got the...
Highly likely if you have the smell , you may also observe excess water out the exh pipes when 1st started cold .
There are pressure tests that can be done to determine if you have a internal coolant leak
The LT1 requires a special method of replacing the coolant because of the reverse flow...
Before wasting time and $$$ , pull the computer error codes to see if anything showing

This is the 1st course of action with these cars should you have any engine problems; it tells you if any of the sensor or input circuits used by the ECM...
Many well documented battery drains with age on these cars.
For example , the limit switches in the headlamp motors worn so the motors continue to draw power all the time , the power seat switches not working so the motors draw power
Only way to identify is by a process of elimination
You...
Was the ECM plugged in ?
It is grounded so I doubt the current caused any problems to it.
You may however have blown the fuse on whatever circuit caused the spark
VATS only affects the engine starting ( takes out the starter and injectors )
It has no effect on items you describe which sounds like a major power loss somewhere
Time to get the DVM out and trace circuits
The OP switch is wired in parallel to the pump relay as a backup should the relay fail ; there is no " fail safe " function related to oil pressure( the input shown to the ECM is solely for monitoring the pump voltage )
So long as the relay is working correctly , the pump ( thus engine ) will...
Why?
You can build any SBC long block and just swap your intake on when you do the engine swap
ECM tuning will depend on the level of mods you do

Mod Advice for L98 and LT1s
Yours is # 13892 of that model year built
My build sheet has a box at top / center of page with TIME / DATE
Says 86/345 being 345th day of 1986 when my '87 was put together
So pull the codes yourself and see if anything present.
The fact it cranks over means it is possible , but highly unlikely that it is security related
Are you mechanically minded.
Here are some tests to do to check the above mentioned Ign control module which will if faulty prevent the...
Sounds like your mechanics work on the
" keep replacing parts till you find the faulty item " principle rather than diagnosing the ACTUAL problem.
Start by pulling the engine fault codes to see if anything showing.
Report back any you find

Unsure were it is at but check the top of the clutch pedal. (VERY hard to get at )
There is a safety switch there as shown in the diagram above that prevents starter operation unless the clutch is depressed
Quick test would be to jumper the terminals of that plug and see if it cranks over
Because the MAP sensor is a essential sensor for engine operation
If the line to the intake is sucking air then you have a BIG vac leak which will always make a engine rev high
Several self tune options but a very steep learning curve
You need a ALDL cable to connect to your laptop
OBD Diagnostics
Popular tuning software is TunerPro RT
TunerPro and TunerPro RT - Professional Automobile Tuning Software
also Tuner Cat
You need a adapter to replace the stock memcal (...
The door switches relate to forced entry ; blow the horn.Have nothing to do with engine running
VATS takes out the injectors and the starter
If the engine cranks over then the key is being read correctly by the VATS module ( unless a PO bypassed the starter relay ! ) in which case it could be...

Airfoil lab tested and proven to improve airflow
Throttle body & injector info - Third Generation F-Body Message Boards
but given the stock TB is not the restricting item on a TPI making power it has no effect
No way of telling from that info.
Does the fuel pump run when you 1st turn the key on ?
Does it stay running ?
Do you have fuel pressure at the rails ?
What is it at ?
No VATS in 85
Not exactly the most complicated circuit to troubleshoot , jumpering the NSS and the relay takes out most of the circuit .A DVM on the yellow at Ign switch and purple at starter should identify if / where a circuit problem lies
