    Replacing the IAC

I didn't have any luck with the socket either. I think some people have ground down a socket so it will fit. I removed the TB which is easy to do and made changing the IAC very easy. It also made it easy to do a thorough cleaning of the TB which my car needed anyway. John

    Alternator

Are you putting in AC Delco or auto parts store rebuilds? The first one I replaced was with a parts store rebuild. It lasted a little over a year. Then a parts guy explained the difference in the alternators. I put out the extra bucks for the AC Delco and haven't had another problem in over 3...

    abs brakes

I believe ABS became standard in 1986. I can hear mine calibrate when the car reaches about 3 mph, either going forward or in reverse. I don't recall about the console light coming on or not.

Looking to buy a Vette: major problems?

I bought my '88 5 years ago this last spring and have really enjoyed it. The first four years all I did was oil changes and replaced the alternator twice. Last year it was new tires and this year I replaced the lumbar pumps, put on new shocks, and changed all the fluids in preparation for a...

Biggest complaint about my C4 Vette

Just to add my 2 cents on the rattles and squeaks. My stock 88 (Z52) coupe with 40K on the clock has neither under normal conditions. It has to be a pretty rough road to get some squeaks. I recently returned from a 5200 mile cruise (Route 66 from Chicago to LA) with it and enjoyed every mile...

    My seats don't inflate!!!

You can get new pumps from both Eckler's and Midamerica for less than $100. I think Midamerica currently has the best price. My catalog isn't handy, but I believe it's around $80. They have the pump listed two different places in their catalog with two different prices. My dealer quoted $163...

    Seat pump 101A ( 88 sport seats)

There are three bladders in the lower area of the seat back. All three inflate when the pump is turned on. The three buttons under the pump switch are then used to bleed air out of each of the three bladders individually to get the proper amount of support in the desired areas.

    Low Idle on Start

I ordered the IAC through MidAmerica. It had the proper pintel and installed with no problems.

    Seat pump 101A ( 88 sport seats)

I replaced both of my pumps this spring. One of them quit a couple years ago and the other one last fall. In my case it was the motors that were bad, so I installed new ones. The new assembleys come with hoses and one of the 3-way couplers installed. I still had one coupler that had one of...

    Low Idle on Start

Just to close the loop on this one. I replaced the IAC over the weekend and the car now seems to be working fine. I wasn't able to get a socket on the IAC, so I ended up pulling the Throttle Body so I could get an end wrench on the IAC. This provided the added benefit of being able to do a...

    Low Idle on Start

Thanks, I'll try the IAC this weekend and see how it goes.

    Low Idle on Start

Hi mr.corvette, Thanks for the reply. Checking grounds is probably a good thing to do on a 14 year old car. I'll check it out. I was wondering if the Idle Air Control Motor could cause these symptoms. Anyone know about that?

    Low Idle on Start

I am having an inteminttent problem with my 1988 L98 Corvette. Sometimes the car starts right up and runs fine immediately. Other times it doesn't start right away, but when I let off on the starter, the car will actually be running at about 300 to 400 RPMs. In a few seconds it will gradually...
