do all 89 coupes have abs brakes.............
i heard that when u turn the key on the message center should show a abs light which will go out.......mine dont even show one........is there a light out or do i not have abs brakes.........ps im new at this and dont have a manual either..........

I am not sure, but if you look under your console lid and copy down the list of RPO codes you can click on the MODEL CENTER tab of this site and look up all the RPO codes for a 1989 and see if you are supposed to have it.

I believe ABS became standard in 1986. I can hear mine calibrate when the car reaches about 3 mph, either going forward or in reverse. I don't recall about the console light coming on or not.

my dad has an auto 89... it most definitely has abs.... yes, abs did come standard beginning with the 86 model year....

the abs active light should come on and then dim..... you will hear a grumble right around 3 mph to let you know the system is operative.....

one time, the light in the 89 did not turn off..... wonder what this means?? - i thought..... so i got up to speed (40 mph or so) and stood on the brakes.... yeah - sure enough, the system did not work and the wheels locked up.....

have you tried to lock the wheels yet?? i mean, this would be the most dynamic way of figuring out whether or not the system is functional.....

so if the light comes on and stays on - this is bad... or maybe the bulb has failed...
