Hi Everyone,

It was suggested in this forum that I replace my IAC. I have the part and I purchased a 1.25" socket as proscribed in my Chilton's manual.

The socket will not slip over the IAC for loosening. It seems that the part of the throttlebody above the IAC does not allow enough clearance for the socket to slip onto the IAC.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

J

I have never had any luck with the socket.

I use a adjustable wrench, or a regular open end wrench and a large pair of water pump pliers as needed.

as soon as you break it loose, it spins out by hand. Same going back in. You will only need the wrench for that last little torque.

Good luck!

I didn't have any luck with the socket either. I think some people have ground down a socket so it will fit. I removed the TB which is easy to do and made changing the IAC very easy. It also made it easy to do a thorough cleaning of the TB which my car needed anyway.

Thanks for the replies.

I would liek to take the TB off also but I was concerned with the hoses. Are these just vacuum hoses? Also, do you need a gasket to put the TB back on?

Thanks,

J

Care goes a long way

Should be abl to re-use gasket if you are careful.

Best of luck

The hoses going to the bottom of the TB are for coolant. The others are vacuum. I was able to leave the coolant hoses connected and just swing the TB up for easy access.

My gasket was in poor shape, so I replaced it. The local parts houses didn't have it in stock but the dealer did.
