    Question: Mechnical Flat Tappet Rebuild

My "was" running geat. No smoke (except after long periods of sitting arround. . .valvue seals maybe). Lots of power. . .and reasonable fule economy. Then after about 3 years of ownership, the car started developing a misfire . .and it just got progressivly worse. I did a vaccume test, the...

Help! 1989 Coupe will not start!!!!

So backed my friends car out of his garage. . .everything was fine. Jacked the car up to change the wheels in the following order (Front right, rear right, front left, and rear left). Put the car down, torqued the lugs, then got in to start the car, and it will NOT turn over!!! What the heck...

    New to carbs

So, I've got a spare quadrajet that I'm going to rebuild so that I can learn how they work. . .and practice how to rebuilt the one on my vette. I have a few books, and I'm reading through them. One of the things that i have not yet come accross is how to identify the "size" of existing...

Question: What can cause a cylinder misfire

Update: So I took all the spark plugs out and wedged the carb butterflies wide open, then connected a compression tester to each cylinder one at a time. For each cylinder I turned the engine over with the starter untill the compression gague wold not climb any higher. ALL but two cylinders...

Question: What can cause a cylinder misfire

No dice. Checked all plug wires and plugs, spark to that point is fine, and the plugs are not fouled. (Ran a known good plug wire as a by pass to all plugs) So not sure what the problem is at this point. -JR

Wouldn't some of these (the ones with "Broken" in them) make all kinds of noise?

Question: What can cause a cylinder misfire

Ok, so everyone just give me some information that connected some dot's to a potential culprit. My engine started running rough immediately after I replaced my clutch. At the time, I thought is was a balancing issue do to potentially shoddy machine work by the flywheel guy. After a while I...

Question: What can cause a cylinder misfire

My 1970 350/350 has a misfire (so I've been told by very experienced corvette shop) and it is most noticeable (engine rattles a bit) between 1,500 and 2,000 RPM. I'm pretty sure it's on the right (passenger side) bank. Don't know which cylinder(s) yet. I was going to have a compression /...

    Question: Replace power steering fluid

Ok, the reason I was considering replaning the fluid is because we are going to be autocrossing an old 1989 vette. I've read in several mag's that racing / autocrossing has a tendency to over heat the fluid and therefore cauing the steering system to go bad. I figured that moving to a good...

1989 coupe rear hatch question, over heating, and parts vendors

We had the car inspected and the car got a good bill of health. The only problems appear to be faded paint, and some normal wear parts (rotors, pads, shocks, maybe springs) will need to be replaced. The rear deck hatch thing was a concern before the inspection because the owner said there...

1989 coupe rear hatch question, over heating, and parts vendors

Hello everyone, I'm helping a friend of mine buy a 1989 coupe remotely. One of the thigs that the previous owner said was the the "string" (as in a peice of rope) that releases the rear hatch from the gas cap location broke. So the rear hatch does not open. I've restored my 1970 vette, so I...

What vender is best for parts?

I've used them all, and have found Volunteer Vette out of Tennesse to be the best to deal with. I also buy heavily from Paragon. If I can't get it from those to, I will fall back to ZIP. the only place i refuse to buy from is Ecklers.

    still a problem brakes 1973

one more thing. when you were bleading the breaks with the one man pump. . .did you have the master cylinder open (e.g. the lid off)? When you bleed breaks the old fashioned way. . .you put the cover on and seal it. However when you use the pump. . .it's often best to leave the cover off...
