Blue '96 - Not Grand Sport?

The 10th digit of the VIN is the model year. A letter "T" is a 1996, a letter "S" is a 1995. The VIN in the eBay ad shows a letter "T" in the 10th position so the car is a 1996.

Blue '96 - Not Grand Sport?

Admiral Blue was only available in the GS model so I would think that it is a repaint. The only real way to tell is to get the color code from the build sheet or the RPO Service Parts ID Sticker. Blue was not an available color in 96 it the regular models. Email the seller and ask what the...

VIN locations on frame - HELP

There should be a partial VIN stamped on the front of the frame just below the battery. Remove the rear wheel well liner on the driver's side. The number should be stamped about 3cm below the top of the frame rail facing the front wheel. These numbers are not stamped too deep so you may have...

    C5 - Kumho Tires

I have the regular MX tires on my 87 in 275/40-17 and I use them for summer driving and track days. They have great grip once they get warmed up and will let you know before you lose grip when pressed hard on the track. To me they are the poor man's version of the BFG KD tires and well worth...

    More coolant questions

You will be OK with any good brand of ethylene glycol green coolant especially if you are not adding a lot to the system. For what it sounds like you need, I would not worry too much about trying to find a coolant with the GM standard listed on it. Prestone, Peak, and other "green" coolants...

    Glowing headers?

If it was on one side only, I would think that an injector or two may be dumping fuel at idle and creating an over-rich condition but with the same thing on both sides, that is probably not the case. Is the engine running rough? What about driving the car for some distance and checking for...

Switch under parking brake (1985 c4)

Probably an aftermarket alarm switch. Can you track down wires that lead from the switch? There was no factory switch anywhere on the parking brake housing.

    More coolant questions

Your 93 uses the green ethlyene glycol coolant that has been around for years. Prestone is as good as any of the green coolants and you can use other brands if necessary. Most brands of green coolant can be mixed so don't worry too much about compatibility. BTW, if you bought concentrtated...

    Growling noise w/ac engaged

My 87 does the same thing and from what I was told, it's the bearings in the unit. I would get it replaced before it seizes up. If the seals are holding the refrigerant in, the unit will cool, but it's only a matter of time before the compressor goes out. You can find a rebuilt compressor...

The old C4 Cliché: Hood issues.

The hood latch pins are adjustable and it sounds like one of them is off just a bit. The pins have slotted tips and you can use a flat-blade screwdriver to adjust them. Turn then counter-clockwise to lengthen the pin which will allow it to sit futher down in the latch. Apply a liberal coat of...

breaks lock when 88 get to temp

Just another thought and question. Did this problem occur before or after you installed the DOT5 fluid?? DOT5 (silicone) fluid is not hydroscopic. It wil not absorb moisture so any water that enters the system will stay in that form. If water makes it's way to the wheel cylinders (like from...

breaks lock when 88 get to temp

With the engine cold, jack up the front and see how much effort it takes to spin the front wheels by hand. It sounds like the front calipers may be sticking. Either something in the piston bore of the caliper or something in the lines from the ABS to the calipers might be keeping the brakes...

Rear Ended "I wasn't paying attention".....

Did you get her driver's license number, the car license number and a phone number for contact? Your insurance should cover any repairs and they will go after her, insurance or not. Guess this type of thing is why I carry Uninsured/Underinsured Motorist coverage. Get an estimate from a known...

    Z51 Is it any good????

Visually, there is no real difference other than the rear wheels and even that is tought to see. You could only get Z51 in the coupe. The ride quality is certainly different and feels much firmer than the base FE1 suspension. Z51 came with stiffer springs and shocks, larger sway bars, HD...

    Shifter Not Locking

The shifter locks only in "P" or "D". As far as temps, those are high but what is the air temp?? City traffic or out on the open roads? As mentioned, it's common for dirt and debris to clog the front of the A/C condensor and radiator, resulting in a loss of air flow over the coils. You...

1989 Vette, Auto or 6 Speed.

The 6-speed tranny is a ZF unit. They are a good tranny and will take a fair amount of power. Expect a little noise from them but it's typical given the dual-mass flywheel. Shifting effort is smooth and there are some great aftermarket shifters available for them. 6th gear is (IIRC) .50:1 so...

    Losing Radiator fluid

It could be losing water when the system pressure is up. If you have an AutoZone part store near you, they will have a pressure tester you can rent at no cost (pay a deposit and you get it back upon return. Use the tester to put about 20psi in the system and check for any leaks. The tool will...

    New Exhaust?

The factory cats flow fairly well and unless you are doing the install by yourself, you may not find a reputable shop that will remove working cats and replace them with something else. That's a violation of federal law and a business could be fined up to $10K! What cats are you looking at...

    Changing gears in '87 Vert

Even going to 3.07's will be a marked improvement. The auto tranny cars got a Dana D36 so you may be limited to the ratio but you should be able to go to around 3.73 or so. Staying around 3.40 will keep fuel economy reasonble but still provide much more acceleration. The D36 is not as strong...

    Mystery Stain

Chances are that the stuff that had been spilled soaked into the seat foam. Over time the stuff will leech out and drop on the carpet or in this case, the can. I would bet that the seat foam is rotted due to mildew from the coffee/choclate.
