    Leather Care

Since GM decided to use such "high" quality leather for our seats, have any of you found a decent leather conditioning product that improves the appearance and maybe the "feel" of these things? Thanks, JCS44 LT4 Vert, Blk/Blk

    1st to 4th

Buy the CAGS disconnect plug from Ecklers or Mid America, which disables the the 1 to 4 gizmo, and protects the cable ends from moisture and dirt. This goes into the cable on the left side of the tranmission. Once installed there will no warning lights, but the 1 to 4 light will still come on...

    LT4 LT4 "real" HP

I know that we all believe that the LT4 motor was underrated at 330 hp. I would like to hear from any of you who have had a dyno test done on a stock LT4. I read of one a couple of days ago that tested at 365hp at the crank and this was claimed to be pretty typical. Thanks, John LT4 Vert...

    A few things....

Sound like you need the manual or at least read it. RPMs in that range are too low to experience a Corvette. That's fine for just cuising down the road, but don't afraid to wind 'er up between shifts. The red line is up at 6300 and it'll go there with ease. I don't have the ride control -...

    A few things....

Hey, it's a Corvette, and LT4's were born to run. Shift at whatever speed makes you feel good. Disconnect the CAGS to make life easier at lower speeds. Armor All on the dash and plastic and a good leather cleaner. What's the antenna problem, unless yours isn't working? If I'm not mistaken...

    warranty

No is correct, except that any recall that is outstanding would still be covered. You should look up the recall for rocker arms/rollers and check your VIN. This one can trash your engine.

    6speed unplug 1st to 4th plug

CAGS Eliminator plug There's a specific CAGS eliminator plug for 1996 because the on board computure is OBD II. The eliminator has the resistance the computer needs to see and it also disconnects the CAGS, and provides weather protection for the original plugs. The CAGS device will not cause...

    6speed unplug 1st to 4th plug

No offense intended - my comment was directed at those who just unplug it.

    6speed unplug 1st to 4th plug

Just buy the stupid plug thing and do it right the first time. No warnings, no codes, no dirty connectors, no 1 to 4 anymore. John LT4 Vert, Blk/Blk/Blk

    LT4 New LT4 owner

Do not just unplug it. That will disable it but will also set a code in the computer and put a warning on the dash. There are by-pass plugs available from places like Ecklers, Mid-America, and ebay. These plugs show the correct resistance to the computer and avoid the warnings. There are...

    New Member

Welcome aboard! I recently came on the forum myself with a blk/blk/blk LT4 vert. Only 244 made in this configuration. Sorry to hear of all the troubles you've had. Guess I've been lucky. JCS44

    Service Bulletins and Recalls

You got me hunting for the recall notice. You're right, it was a campaign and listed the range of applicable VINs. Mine didn't match so that's good news. Thanks a bunch for your help. John

    Service Bulletins and Recalls

Was this done as the result of a recall or because you or the dealer knew about the service bulletin? Free fix? How long ago? Where did they put the sticker and what does it look like. Thanks, John

    Service Bulletins and Recalls

Need some advice here. I pulled a listing of service bulletins off the some website that apply to 96 Corvettes. There were two listed that applied to LT4s. One related to noises in the steering column, lick a clicking noise when the wheel is turned. The other one had to due with the valve...

    Perfect! Thanks Eric.

    Headlight aim

Does anyone have a procedure for sort of correctly aiming the headlights? I can always eyeball where they hit on a flat road and make adjustments, but is there something a little a more precise one can do at home? Thanks, John Blk/Blk LT4 Vert :beer

    LT4 New LT4 owner

Thanks for the tips. I can hear the horn relay click when I press either wheel button and I have checked for voltage at the horns plug when the buttons are pressed - it's there. All that leaves is the horns themselves. I pulled both off and sprayed the inside of one with WD40. After soaking...
