I have had my 96 LT4 for several weeks now and I find the requirement to shift from 1st to 4th a real distraction. The system wants to force this shift at too slow a speed, which brings about a clumsy shift to 4th then back to 2d. I am getting used to staying in 1st past the 17 mph limit or when I catch the light going out in my peripheral vision.

Do you live with this "feature" or have you disconnected it?

Buy the CAGS disconnect plug from Ecklers or Mid America, which disables the the 1 to 4 gizmo, and protects the cable ends from moisture and dirt. This goes into the cable on the left side of the tranmission. Once installed there will no warning lights, but the 1 to 4 light will still come on. It IS a pain, don't live with it.

The CAGS (Computer assisted gear selection) is a pain. Disconnect it. If you want to re - connect it later you can. From what I understand, GM did this for some sort of emissions reason. The plug mentioned will keep all connections free of dirt and moisture. :w

Thanks for the information. I jumped over to Ecklers right away and bought it.
