Is GM 4718 oil code still used on new Vettes?

I was wondering if the GM 4718 oil requirement code used on C-4's, is still used for new Vettes. The reason being is that if newer oil codes are just used for newer Vettes, will the GM 4718 be dropped as time goes on? If so then we may not know what would replace it. Thanks:w

not made for the cold weather

hotshotzny I have an 85 that runs very cool and takes a while to really warm up, I believe the reason is that there is an auxillary oil cooler on both our models, 84 & 85, that helps keep the temp cool. In your county, it gets cooler sooner, I'm in Orange county, a little better, you're in the...

Is GF-4 rating equal to GM4718 for Syn?

I have found a Valvoline Syn that shows a GF-4 rating, but does not show the GM-4718 rating. Is the GF-4 rating equal to or an upgraded rating for use in Corvettes? I don't know what the late model Vettes require, and I was wondering if the GM-4718 rating is being superceded or dropped as our...

Question: C4 storage disconnect battery or use a maintainer

Around where I live I disconnect the battery completely by the end of November, then recharge in April. I would never keep a maintainer on it during that period, simply not necessary.

    Question: Cross country trip info?

Another thing: take a soft cooler for drinks. You can always get ice at motels and drinks come in handy whether its water or Red Bull.

    Question: Cross country trip info?

I've made about a dozen road trips x-country(east to west). I made sure I had Synthetic oil in, checked fluids, tires, tool kit(I love having tools available), flashlight, maps, pen & paper. One thing you should consider, is to put on a car bra/mask on the front. No doubt you will pass thru...

I just changed out my factory installed battery.

Funny thing you should mention this: I went to start my 96 LT4 today to get a state inspection(NY) and the battery went flat..I finally got it started and when it was inspected the mechanic was aware of the problem and stated that it must be the original battery!! I do believe the batteries last...

Do you have more than 1 vette?

I have 3 - all C4's..just worked out that way: an 85, 93 Ruby, 96 LT4 vert. I'm not big into vert's but I figured the last one may as well be a vert to be different. Trust me, without going into details, there is a sound reason for every one of them :)

Oops ! Too Much Freon !

I only thought that R-12 freon is illegal to vent, didn't know that R-134A is also illegal.

40th Anniversary Who has the most accurate touch up paint for the Ruby Red??

This may seem stupid, but I have used nail polish, in the best possible color I could find, and it really works like magic. It's almost like using a pencil and the tiny nicks disappear. Nail polish seems to be very liquidy which makes it flow very easy, as compared to touch up paint which seems...

    1992 Passive Keyless Entry

On my 93, I had some fun with my son, a college grad BTW: I made some gestures, like magic hands, as I walked away, and the car beeped and locked itself. He was amazed! Then I approached the car and did my evil empire hands and the car responded again, too cool :) It's a great system, but it...

LT1 Water Pump Life Expectancy ?

I agree with Tuna,(above)..my '94 Trans Am(LT-1) sprung a leak after sitting on jackstands for over 3 yrs. When I had to move it, coolant was leaking out like a gasket was completely blown, which had been changed to red, which was suppose to be allowed, but running engines much more frequently...

    dash lights flickering

How's your battery? Is it new or on the old side? I thought I saw a flicker happen on my 93, with sometimes another gauge info appearing at the same time. The next spring(after a winter disconnect) and a battery change, that all seemed to go away. Just a thought.

How to replace fog bulbs on an 84?

I have a friend who has an 84 and has to replace a fog lamp bulb. All the mechanics in his town are puzzled and he's not puter savy to ask. So, does this year C4 involve taking off the front facia? Or is there a simpler trick to it? Thanks, I'll pass the info to him.

For '90 and under, Syn or Dino??

I have been seeing articles popping up about the reducing of zinc in conventional motor oils to prolong the life of the cat. converter. The problem here is that if there is not enough zinc in the motor oil, with engines that have flat tappets, the oil would not 'turn' the tappet to create an...

    '94 Optisparks all the same??

Opti-sparks are the same for at least 93-94. For 1995/96 there was a change to improve the venting of the cap of its moisture. NO, you can't put a 95/96 model on prior years, because GM changed the size of cam spline that goes into the Opti, and it can't fit. BUT you can use a 95/96 dist.cap on...

Question: C4 Touch up Paint ?

On the serious side, can you REALLY use nail polish for a touch up???? I'm talking little tiny spots. I know it will stick, but what's the verdict?? thanks

What do you want to see in the C7?

How about that new self-healing paint? I believe it is starting to flow thru to some new cars now, one for sure is a Japanese 4X4.

LTPWS lites up but not stored

I have a '96 with a LTPWS(low tire pressure sys). After driving the required time for it to indicate if you have a problem, it lites up on the dash. If you re-start the car after a normal period, it's not there, until the required period again. I have a code scanner, and when I hooked it up...
