    Valve seal question

I get a puff of smoke on start up on my '85 with just under 50K, and it seems to be the result of valve seals drying out (as explained by forumites). If I use 'high-mileage' oil, do you believe that it may solve this problem? If it does, what happens if I go back to what I am now using, which is...

Puff of smoke on start up

That sounds like something I would like to do. Does the air pressure loosen up the seals? What are the seals made of? Soft bronze?

Puff of smoke on start up

Thanks. Shame that it happens to an engine with less than 50K on it. I don't feel I would have a reason to pull off the heads, so I guess I'll live with it and keep an oil check.

Puff of smoke on start up

I have an '85 L98 that is just shy of 50K miles. When I first start it up cold, a puff of blue smoke will appear. Thereafter the rest of the day, no smoke. I know this means a little oil blow-out/burn up, but does this normally happen to many of these motors? I don't use this car every day...

    Antenna doesnt fully retract

My antenna does not go down immediately on my '85, when the radio is first turned off. I'll return to the car a while later, then it will be in the down position. I have never timed this to see how long it takes before it finally goes down, and I was wondering if this was 'normal' ??

    Silly Keys question

Thanks Joe. I was wondering if the rounded key was covered too.

    Silly Keys question

Does anyone know what were the style of original keys as supplied by GM for their Vettes? I know that GM used a 'bare', no cover ignition key, and a 'covered' door key, and the reverse use. I have an '85 and was wondering what correct style key was used for the ignition and door. Later models...

    I need battery info guys?

I have similar situations of inactivity. I have a '93, that I purchased in '99 and I think the battery is now on its last leg. During the winter, I disconnect and recharge up in the spring before first use. I don't or won't believe that it has the original battery in there, although it is a...

    What are true 'Sawblades' ??

I know what 'sawblades' refer to but there are 2 different styles.... there is one type on 89-90(?) and there is another style where the 'teeth' are curved more, at the end of the C4 series. I thought this later style were called 'weathervanes'. Or does it make much of a difference? thanks...

LT4 Who has the highest mileage LT4?

I just got my baby this past summer. Drove it East from AZ. I picked it up @ 26K + now @ 29K+. Did 1 oil change, the oil it took to get me home, and then I will do it once a year as recommended. I do have another Vette that I barely drive and it kills me to think of dropping the Syn oil at only...

    Backyard Buddy

I also have a lift, which I got from Direct Lift. Made in China as opposed to B Buddy, which I think is made in USA. I love it! It does take up more space then you would figure, and you have to bend a little, depending on the size of the car you put on there, when the lift is in the 'up'...

I got 30 MPG from an LT1 ??? and you?

No, this is about my '93 Ruby, hence Ruby Fan. I also own an '85, which I drive more often. That's why half the gas was over a year old. Sorry for the mis.

I got 30 MPG from an LT1 ??? and you?

This past weekend I drove a local area highway, (Garden State Parkway), averaging 75, some of it on cruise control, and I wound up with a gas mileage of 30 miles to the gallon. There was no traffic, and it was basically a straight run, except for the occasional toll!. The tank had a combo of a...

Snow, Snow and no go for a while

I plowed out the garage, where mine is napping, to keep the snow at a low level. This way when it rains I'll be able to take it out, instead of having to wait for 10" of snow to melt.:D

    Opti upgrade, Cam question

The 2 vac lines: one gets poked thru your fresh air intake rubber snout, the other gets tee'ed into left side vac. about midway(front to back) on the eng. block. There is actually a no name brand 'tee' fitting I picked up and it states for GM cars, that worked perfectly. You don't really have to...

    a corvette winter

Yeah, you folks in the sun belt states, have fun in your Vettes all year round, but us folks in the Northeast have been lucky to have a mild winter. I'm taking full advantage of it, and I have enjoyed driving my beauty more than usual this 'off-season'. Hope you guys do too! :w

    Antifreeze

Sorry folks, but I changed all of my vehicles to Dexcool: '77 Caddy(did over 6 years, but low mileage), 2 Mopar Neons, and of course my '85 and '93 Vettes. The red-orange stuff seems to be a gentler-kinder mixture on metal. I believe it came out because of the extensive use of aluminum in engine...

    radio interference

I thought that this was an extinct problem (for my '85): but when I play my radio in AM mode, I can get engine static in sync with RPM's!!! I have Taylor wires, 8mm, which are new, and new Accel dist. cap. So what's going on?? I thought with new modern ignition systems this was as old as...
