It is easy enough to check your crankcase pressure. Pull the two hoses off of the valve covers. Plug one and feel the pressure on the other. It should be pulsing without much pressure.
Maybe a dumb question but is the Oil level correct?
If The Right Stuff is not applied properly you will have...
Look for the simple things first. Our plastic cars are electric nightmares and at 17 years young you are sure to have some bad ground points.
But first keep it simple.
Air
Fuel
Spark
Are they all there at the right time and in the right quantity?
Do you get the idle problems only when you step...
This brings back bad flashbacks of my problems with Thunder. A bead of the right stuff on the baseplate was breaking down when it got hot and letting coolant enter the intake. We chased the problem around the world until enough of the sealant broke down to cause an ongoing problem.
It does sound like a vacuum leak.
How is the Idle speed?
The check valves on the air injection tubes are fairly rugged and I think that the noise that you would get from one of them failing would sound more like an exhaust leak than a squeal.
I would try to pinpoint the noise with a...
That is one rich ride!:upthumbs I had a '75 Eldorado Triple black Coupe in its time. Got hit by some drunks at a stoplight in Cairo IL. The drunks went to jail via the hospital. Their Ford econo-box was dragged away dripping liquids and smoking. I drove the Eldo back home to New Orleans... the...
I also drive one of these
On the more practical side we have a Pontiac Van and I have the use of a team car, usually a S-Class Benz but most of the time I am either in the Vette or on a motorcycle.
Oops I almost forgot the Toyota Rock Climber. It has dual transfer cases driven by a SBC and...
;shrugyou are right. I did not follow the link... I though that I had picked it up from a different thread.
Talk to Crane about their Power Max X series cam kits. They come with everything needed in one box.
The TIPS Z10 might be a good choice as well.
Lingefelter used 211/219 duration at...
Keep an eye on eBay. A lot of the F-body hot-roders are trading up and selling off their L-98 bits. I picked up my intake for 1/4 of the list price.
You should PM Grumpyvette. He is a wealth of knowledge and always willing to share. Do a search of his post and you will see why I put so much...
This is the cam that Grumpy likes and over the years he has been spot-on 100% of the time.
Before you start throwing money at the L-98 make up a truth table of were you are - where you want to be and how many $ you want to spend.
The L-98 is limited by its intake and exhaust. Until you open...
Yes but you should upgrade the valve springs. While it is apart a set of roller rockers would be a nice upgrade as well.
The hotcam moves the torque higher up and needs a lot more air than the TPI can pass. You will lose some lowend torque and never see much over 5000 RPM.
Unless you have a...
84 to 89 had the front speakers in the doors. 90 to 96 put the speakers in the kick panel.
Other than the speaker cutouts the 84-89 inside door panels are different due to the change of the dashboard, window and windshield wiper controls, etc.
Here are some more photos I found of the modified TB and throttle shaft.
You can see how the throttle shaft is cleaned up, drilled and tapped to take the retainer screw to hold on the bell crank and the sealed roller bearing. Sorry, I can't remember the part # of the bearing.:W
:upthumbsDon't you love West Marine? They are one of the best companies that I have ever dealt with.
Boat less now... Looking for a 12 meter Catamaran. Anybody got any leads on a Prout or Solaris at a great price? Find me a boat and I will feed you fresh pinched Lobster and Conch in Grand Turk.:D
I just had a look at the eBay store. The product looks good and the price is right. With the $60 core refund it brings the price down to $159... Just think of it as Dinner for 4 at a decent restaurant.
I did not see any TPI TBs on his site. Maybe you already bought it.:confused
The LT-1 TB...
L-98 Throttlebody mods.
I source anything that I can not find locally through
http://www.globalspec.com/ but you should be able to find the bearings at supply house that specializes in power transfer or google for roller bearings.
I did this on the PDA on the train yesterday and I am not a...
Did you mean self aligning? You need to use self aligning rockers unless you are going to replace the guide plates and push rods. Regular roller rockers will wonder off of the valve unless the push rod is held straight. That requires hardened guide plates which require hardened push rods. Self...
Hi Mark,
I am a Yank living down in Spain. The workmanship it the UK is a thousand times better than what I can get here.
The only person other than me that is allowed to touch one of my motors is Frankie. He has built 2 for me and they are both great after 5 or more years of use. It might be...
