To Tom - re: fuel filter.

'95 fuel filter change There was a thread a few months ago (not sure?? which forum) that described disconnecting the fuel line at the back of the fuel rail. Then the filter rear. Then pull the filter and forward line out and change the filter. Feed the forward line up to the fuel rail and...

    REALLY dumb question.

Transmission Fluid Change Drop the pan to change the filter and also to clean out the pan. Once you've done it this way, you'll see why. It would be nice to change all of the fluid too but there's tons of crud in the filter and pan. When changing the filter make sure the 'adapter' comes out...

    1991 starter removal

Starter remove On my '95 (LT1) it was much easier using 1/4" drive sockets with a loooong extension. The cat heat shield got bent but only just a little. It's much easier to remove the starter wiring after loosening the starter and moving it toward the front of the car a little. Of course...

    Help! Bias Spring Popped...HELP

1995 Brake Master Cylinder My '95 FSM shows the same figure as the 1996 figure posted by LT4man.

    86 Start problems

No start Vats prevents the starter from cranking, along with fuel inhibit. If your Corvette cranks, it ain't Vats.

    86 Start problems

Intermittent no start I observed your Corvette's symptoms on a '91 Regal. Slowly got worse. After it totally crapped, a new ECM (or PCM, depending on the year) brought the car back to life. The FSM cautioned to assure that the ground was well made (PCM to ground). Further, when it was acting...

    Oil dip stick removal

Oil dipstick removal Wiggle it a lot while pulling on it. Pliers are likely necessary but don't squeeze to hard and squash the tube. I have a big pair of needle nose pliers that work well. It's going to come loose suddenly so take care to avoid flinging oil all over. Good luck

    Question: Mis-directed air....?

No air from dash vents If there's inadequate vacuum to move the control vanes in the vent system, the default is to blow air out the floor and defrost vents (none out the dash vents). There's a vacuum distribution block above the gas pedal. 96's had some softer rubber nipples that collapse. And...

    Rear wheel speed sensors

ASR The ASR senses when the rear wheels turn at a different speed than the fronts or each other. If the difference is great enough, some rear brakes are applied to the faster spinning wheel(s). If the difference is greater yet, the mechanism in the engine compartment decreases the throttle...

    suspension issues and potential upgrades

Loose rear over rough pavement Last summer I replaced the rear sway bar end connector bushings to get rid of a sporadic clunk, thunk and squeak when going over mild bumps. A pleasant surprise; nearly every running noise in the car is gone, and so is the rear end 'float' when cornering on a wash...

    aftermarket dimmer resistor?

"sys" flashing The "Sys" message will flash if your battery is weak as well as some other conditions. Since yours started after the radio install, that's likely the cause. From Supporting Member Spanishvettes at the following thread (found by doing a search for “After market stereo resistor”)...

    Service Engine Soon

Misfire after wash Dry any visible dampness with a rag. Use a hair dryer to get the rest, especially under the dist. cap and ignition wires at the looms. In the dark, lift the hood while the engine is running (not so far that the under-hood lights come on) and look for arcing. If the ignition...

    Radiator hose blows on freeway

Blown radiator hose Last summer my '95 had the 'flow control valve' blow at high rpm. Dumped everything very quickly - all over the firewall and A/C condenser housing. In traffic, stopped, looked both ways then ran a red light to get into a lot and shut off. Walked 3/4 mile to get a piece of...

    win aldl data log

Poor hard acceleration When the engine coughed upon NOS, it may have blown off a vacuum hose. I had this happen when feeding Seefoam too fast???? Felt really humble when the garage showed me the hose off. Symptoms were similar to yours.

    Help! Serpentine Devils

'96 Serpentine tensioner On my '95 the tensioner is between the power steering pulley and the crank pulley. It is a hex head, 15mm as I recall, that requires a socket. A breaker bar (with socket attached) is more compact than a ratchet, so is more convenient. The tensioner pulley swings upward...

LT-1 Engine noise cold, Piston Slap?

Oil Smell the dipstick to check for fuel (gas) aroma. A leaky injector could dilute the oil and reduce its effective viscosity and 'clinging' which can produce start-up noises and faster engine wear. Good luck.

    SYS flashing.

SYS light Many forum users report that the SYS light results from a bad or weak battery (among other problems). My '95 SYS light would occasionally blink under hard acceleration. One day while cleaning the interior with the doors open, hatch up, etc., the battery discharged so much it couldn't...

    Help! Batmobile Refuses to Idle

Poor idle Yep, crud in the EGR and it's leaking, causing lean mix. Often the EGR simply sticks or there is carbon in the valve. Or the control system may have expired. Test the valve itself by applying/releasing vacuum and observing full movement. Usually poor control causes the EGR to stick...
