Those with Modified Engines and Original Carb

First I want to re-address my answer to Barry08 about anyone using my carb. I did not mention that I have been using one on my 350-400 hp car for several years now. I learned to work on these things (E4MEs) because I had one and no one else seemed to know (or want to know) anything about them...

Those with Modified Engines and Original Carb

The E4ME is just an 800CFM (actually a variable CFM) Quadrajet that uses a computer instead of engine vacuum to control the metering rods. At WOT, the computer will raises the rods, so basically, the carb can be performance modified just like any other Quadrajet to whatever level you need. If...

Yes, O.J has one of my carbs, as he said, but he did not have the engine running yet last I heard. Hopefully he will be able to give a report soon. Also, I am presently building another high-performance E4ME for another member here. I hope to get some independent feedback on this soon. People...

    Engine Knock Noise

Get a mechanic's stethoscope at an auto prts store (about $15). This should help pinpoint the problem. If it is a deep knock, it may be the fuel pump rod. God bless, Sensei

    200r4 control

If I remember correctly, I just plugged the original Th350c connector into my TH700r4 and it works. The ECM just sends 12v through a switch on the brake pedal and on to the tranny plug. If the 2004r uses the same pin lay out, it should work. God bless, Cris

    Need EGR solenoid

I'll try to get up in the attic and see if I can find mine. God bless, Sensei

The only difference between a 4 speed and an automatic carb is that the auto has a stud on the linkage for the transmission kick down cable. You can use it on your four speed with no problems. I'm sending you a PM. God bless, Sensei

Batman, the chip does not need to be modified, although it does not hurt to put in a Hypertech chip. The stock chip already lets the carb flow as much as it is set up for at WOT, you just need to get it set up to flow right for your motor. God bless, Sensei

Is your car As cold blooded as mine?

I hate replacing good parts to try to find a problem. No varying dwell indicates no closed loop. Do you have the GM service manual? It provides trouble shooting litanies to find the problem. You can find them on Ebay. God bless, Sensei

Is your car As cold blooded as mine?

There are a lot of adjustments on the carb. It's hard to say what might be causing your problem, but it could be some adjustments out of whack. It also could be a stuck EGR valve maybe?

Is your car As cold blooded as mine?

NOT ANY MORE! Yes, as Bill said, that is how it often was "back in the day". I remember my parents having problems with new vehicles in the early 70's. BUT! The problem is not the design, it was and is the set up of the choke. The procedure in the GM service manual is gibberish. There is a...

    Ooops! Broken bolt...now what

I feel your pain. This type of problem is frustrating. An Intake swap to an Edelbrock performer is easy enough, or, if you want to keep it stock, I have my original manifold I was going to list on ebay some day that is cleaned up and is like new. PM me if interested. But otherwise, this may be a...

That price sounds about right. If you are not in a hurry, you might just keep an eye on Ebay. God bless, Sensei

Yes, they are mods to the carb itself. It is all really nothing new, the same stuff hot rodders have been doing to other Quadrajets for years. I'm just applying them to the E4ME. God bless, Sensei

It would absolutely work! That cam sounds awfully mild for a 383, it is pretty much what I have on my 355, and I consider it a mild camshaft for my application. I also have a mod that should make the '81 computer work with a radical camshaft, but it is still in the testing phase (anyone...

Those with Modified Engines and Original Carb

In case anyone is interested, I am building a high performance E4ME Quadrajet (Computer controlled) and am looking for someone interested in using it on their modified engine. A 383 would be nice, but a really stout 350 would be okay too. I am not looking to make money on this, but would need to...

    Question: Rear wheel bearings

I replaced the rear bearings on one side of mine and it was a PAIN! Let me rebuild an electronic Quadrajet or install an engine or transmission any day. I did not have the proper measurement tools to set the end play, so I just put in the new bearings with the same shims etc. that came off. This...
