    Radiator flush this weekend

MAN, that is SICK! :puke can't remember the last time I said THAT! :( "Dexcool" is good stuff, the extended life anti-freeze.

    160 Thermostat

You really should do both at the same time to get the benifits of a cooler running car. If you do just the thermostat, it will not cause any problems, will cool the car a little lower when driving on the highway, but not when ideling in traffic. If the fans come on below 190deg stock thermostat...

    changing the auto trans fluid

Tips? Only tip I have is that next time I do mine, I'm going to install a drain plug kit to make it a little less messy next time! It is a good idea. My 4L60E in the 96 Vette took about 4 1/2 quarts for a fluid and filter change. About 1/2 quart went down my arm, and 2 quarts on the floor...

    front hub & bearings

Re: Re: Front hub & bearings Little too much :drink can cause that to happen! :L Are these bearing assemblies "side sensitive"? Do yo need a right side on the right? or, are they interchangable left to right?

Car drying with a "leaf blower?" NO WAY!

How big of a blower do you need? Just wondering if one of the smaller / lighter 160mph models would work for this? They can be purchased for around $35.00 ! Or do you need a higher volume (CFM) or velocity like 210 mph to do any good? I like the idea of the lightweight models, easy to handle...

How many of you all have performance headers?

:upthumbs Now there's an idea I may be able to use! I've got the IM240 emissions to deal with here every two years, could switch back and forth if needed every two years. (use straight pipes for "off-road use only" ;) ) I don't have mine bolted on yet, but I've also got the short style JBA's

    Removing A.I.R. system on a 96 ?

Ted, I'm just thinking of visually cleaning up the engine capartment a little. Not a performance gain. There are a lot of pipes and hoses related to the A.I.R. system. Guess I could remove the pump also, but that creates problems with the serpentine belt length and routing. Tom,

    Removing A.I.R. system on a 96 ?

Can you remove the A.I.R. set-up on a 96 LT1 without screwing up anything else? Just cap the ports on the exhaust manifold ( or install headers) and remove the plumbing, cap / seal, the port at the back of the intake manifold, and leave the pump in place, just cut of or remove the rubber hose...

    LT1 "Shorty" headers

Anybody have any experinces, good, bad, or indifferent. With Shorty style headers on a smog-legal LT1 Corvette? JBA 1815's to be particular, called "Cat 4ward" by JBA http://www.jbaheaders.com (for 92-96 Corvettes) There list price is way high, but some used ones may be floating around (I...

    lowering kits

:confused The same reason someone takes a FAST car and makes it FASTER! :confused The same reason women get BREAST IMPLANTS! :upthumbs All three increase the :eek :eek factor!

    lowering kits

Al: My aftermarket rear spring bolts measure 10" long (not counting the head) So I guess 10" rear spring bolts would work on a 96 vert. anyway. Supplied nut is a "ny-loc" type nut. Tom,

    lowering kits

Al: My stock bolts were 9" long, the last 1 1/2" is threaded. This is on a convertible if that makes any diff. But......, the stock bolts don't weigh that much :confused Do you really think it would be worth the cost to get an 11" bolt made of titanium??? If you want a test car, I'm there!
  13. F

    lowering kits

Yes, the back end is just longer bolts with "ny-loc" nots (lock-nuts) so you can adjust to the desired ride hieght. Very easy to install, but you will never get both sides the same hieght! Front on a 96 anyways, is much more of a pain in the ass to install! Must remove the front transverse...

    Just Zaino'ed the Torch Red

I agree! Once you get started, it gets easier with subsequint applications. You can add a coat after a car wash or before a show very easily! I will continue to use it. Still have not tried the "ZFX" yet. Tom,

    Redline

Looks like "grumpvette" pretty much nailed that subject shut! I programmed my LT1 (96) with a rev limiter set at 6000 rpm. thats all I felt comfortable with. It's pretty stock, but the 3:73 rear end gears do get it to 6000 rpm pretty fast! Wish I had an LT4 :cry

    Wheel Balancing & Weights

Wheel balancing. I agree 100% Many people just assume that the tire store will put the weights on the inside, and they don't :eek We have a new spin balancing machine at my place of employment and as you said, the operator can select the inside, outside, or both, for positioning the weights...

    pully systems

Are you looking at the "underdrive" pulley systems? Hypertech may carry them also, not sure. Does anyone have any experience with underdrive pulleys? The idea sounds reasonable, but do they do any good?

    Water Pump

Hood removal benifits! Just an idea, I found it much easier to remove the hood (use a helper for this) before removing the radiator and shroud and related crap. Then you can scrub the area in front of the radiator, by the headlight actuators, real well! armor-all the vacum hoses, ect...,

Bleeding brakes when all new calipers are installed?

Do you need to do anything differnt from normal when bleeding the brake system after replacing all four calipers and related brake lines? probably lots of air in the system to get out! I usaully use a "mity-vac" and vacum bleed from each caliper, farthest first, then work towards master...

"Shortie" headers and getting gaskets to seal them?

Anybody running "Shortie" headers on an LT1?... If so, do you have any trouble getting the header gaskets to seal properly and not leak? I'm looking at some JBA shorty style headers, used, off a neighbors car. He switched to stock iron manifolds because he said they would not seal very well...
