    Caliper lube

Do you think I can get away with using di-lithium grease (that I use for the slide on my garage door) on the pins that the disk pads slide on? I am going to have the wheels off to flush and refill the diff so I thought I could lube those at the same time.

    Still making noise....

The wheel bearings and u-joints have been changed recently. The rubber looks original. The part that bugs me is the time thing/distance thing. When I first start out, everything works just fine. But, give me 10 miles of open road or the equivalent in town mileage, and it starts acting up. it's...

    Still making noise....

I think the next step is to take the rotor in and have it checked to make sure it is not bogus. Ka-chinbg certainly is living up to 'er name.

    Still making noise....

Actually I have a new set of rubber hoses. I can try that. But, I can't see how driving for a few miles would cause the problem. But, it's worth a try. I'm getting desperate.

    Still making noise....

Well, Ka-ching is still at it. I was (am) experiencing a 'binding - release (best way I can describe it)" noise coming from the left rear. So far I have: 1. Replaced both rear calipers and pads 2. Replaced left front caliper (in case I was mishearing where it was coming from) 3. Replaced wheel...

    Radio issue

I may very well have blown the courtesy light fuse when I was eating fuses testing the antenna. I will check later. it was dark then. The radio is aftermarket. Has always worked. Power comes froma red wire (I assume going to the fuse panel). I think I need to pull the radio and make sure I...

    Radio issue

Another weird time with the radio. I went for a drive yesterday. I truned ont he radio (force of habit) and it worked just fine. No antenna (I have the fuse removed). I stopped at a local cruising spot for a few hours. Left. Radio still working fine. I got home and turned off the car. No...

    Radio issue

Just to make things weirder... The boss decided that the beast has been torn apart long enough. We can live without an antenna for a while. So, I took the 3A fuse out of the antenna connection. That should kill that circuit. We went out for supper. The radio worked fine. We came out from eating...

    Arghhhh

I had figured out why the reverse lockout wasn't working. The key that went into the the shifter and moved within the gear template was broken off. I couldn't find another one anywhere, so I had a local machinist make one. When I tried to put the unit back together, the new key would not fit...

    Dodged a bullet

I was driving down the street one day in my old FIAT X1/9. I looked in the rear view mirror and all I saw were flames and smoke. The only thing sitting between me and the fire was the gas tank!! I thought to myself, "So this is how it ends. Riding a flaming FIAT into Hell." I was able to get to...

    Leaking caliper piston

Well, the brakeline came in from Mid America on Friday. Only took 5 days using UPS ground. So, I was pleasantly surprised. When I went to install it, I got a bit confused. When it is in place, it runs between the emergency brake stuff and the shaft. I looked at the old brakeline and it ran...

    Leaking caliper piston

I'm always amazed by the people who buy a cool car and let it sit for years. I am sure they assume 'low mileage = big $$ from the buyer'. However, I am finding 'low mileage = big$$ to the garage'. Time to put on my mechanics hat again. I put it somewhere when I left my 20s. Now where was that....

    Trade for Harley

I went out and took another look at itr last night. The VIN is 1G1YY3187K5125870. So, it is an 89. The owner was not around, so I couldn't question him. The last time I talked to him, he said the low mileage was because the guy bought it and something happened (stroke?) where he couldn't drive...

    Trade for Harley

That's kind of what i was thinking. He also has a 66 Chevelle SS. He replaced the 283 with a 396, so it doesn't have matching numbers. Mabye I could get him to trade for both. Wife gets the Vette, daddy gets the SS396. Hmmm.... Now, where to get rid of a 79 MG Midget.

    Trade for Harley

I have a 1999 Harley Fat Boy (value approx $15,000). A guy I know wants to trade a late model Vette (I believe it to be an 86) for it. The Vette has 4,500 miles (it was stored for a long time). It is red with a white convertible top. The top has some tears in it. It has a spoiler on the rear...
