I found an odd little toy store in a factory outlet mall ... they have the most bizarre die-casts all the time. A couple 1-18 Corvettes I picked up there were the original open-top Gran Sport race car, a Z06 with a high-rise hood, race stripes and bling wheels, a red '55 with the small-block...
This is typical of how rank and position can skew the best efforts of talent and expertise. Just because some exec had a "good idea" that no one has the cajones to oppose, a very bad idea is put into effect.
One such example is Cadillac's slavish adherence to the "art and science" design...
I replaced all the heater hoses in my '84. Had to buy new hose lengths that had different angle bends built in, then cut the ends to matching length. It worked great, but you have to take the old hoses into the store with you to make the matches right and also use them as templates for length...
Don't forget all the sensors ... those little bastards can ruin anything. I always put in new oxygen sensors, throttle position sensors, manifold pressure, air pressure and a bunch of other little gremlin-makers like that just because they can spoil your performance with a bogus report to the...
I just got the legal papers yesterday ... no numbers yet. The heirs have until Sept. 13 to contest appointment of the two executors named in the will (aunts) and then they will liquidate the estate and distribute the assets. So it will be a couple months. Meanwhile, I'm keeping the C4 crisp...
Ever hear one of those jokes about a long lost great aunt passing away and leaving a fortune? I think that just happened to me! I just got a batch of papers from a lawyer telling me my Great aunt on my father's side has left this world and named my father and his heirs as her heirs. Well, Dad...
It's a lucky man whose wife loves Vettes as much as he does. Even if they love the top-off summer fun and driving the best ride on the road, most of them just don't have the performance and style DNA it takes to understand what it's really about.
If she doesn't know why you wave whether they...
That car is gorgeous and the price is a good one. I've been thinking about trading in my C4, but I'm 3,000 miles away. Gotta pass it up, but it's nice to see the market smiling at me that way. A friend with a C5 warned me not to test drive any or I wouldn't be able to even sit in my '84 any more.
Ahhhhhhhhhhh .... oil changes. So slippery and warm, yet so hard to get off without the right tool. I like to be on the bottom, getting the nut off ......
I'll wave at you when it's over ...
Man ... you sure got that right. I had a couple of the 80s Caddy Eldorados with the big long hoods and changed a couple fuel pumps over the years. I'd rather gargle the bum-squeezins' of 30 skunks than do that again.
I wave to all the crossed flags and get about an 80 percent response. I'd say that about 10 percent of them were folks that just didn't see me because they were watching traffic or some sweet jigglin's walkin' along. That means a few thought I was a prick because I didn't see them and didn't...
Wrong part, that's a piece of the distributor. There's a plastic shield that snaps over that one and bridges the gap between the air cleaner and the firewall. And I don't mean the coil cover ...
On 85 and later, it's a cast aluminum part that can be found for about $26/$27, but it's a...
I put a set on my '84 ... like in the caricature I did for my avatar. Really nice deal for the price. They go on easy, although I drilled a couple holes in the mounting brackets to get them closer to the body (personal preference) and they have a deep, throaty sound. The 3-inch stainless...
Hey ... while we're on the subject of impossible parts for '84s ... the plastic cover on top of the HEI distributor has broken clips on mine. Where can a guy get a new one or a good used one? It's a one-year part and useless for anythiong else.
Here's a site that offers alternatives:

And here are some custom parts:

If you're looking for stock stuff, though, that will be a real search. About two years ago I was considering...
Hey ... this was a learning experience for all of us. Now I appreciate how simple the tensioner setup on the 84 is, but next Vette I get may be filled with similar surprises.
A toast to this forum and the mind-melding that goes on here ... live well and prosper!
