    oil leaks

I've had to re-torque the oil pan and the trans pan on the C4 fairly frequently. A stripped headlight gear doesn't seem like a problem one should have with 16,000 miles...does it? Thank goodness the C5 is still in warranty: the headlight assembly was $347 plus one hour shop time. That...

    oil leaks

Just talked to my mechanic about the same thing. It's a Corvette built-in problem he says, and he has done several warranty repairs. When the seal between the transmission and the dif begins leaking the only solution is a replacement, which he says requires "taking apart half the car." One seal...

    Rain - what Rain?

The Vette is the weekend vacation car. I'd sure hate to be on one of our 1,000-1,500 mile loops and have to rent a garage to keep the car from getting wet....

Whats with the Synthetic Power Steering FLuid?

I asked Gordon Killebrew about using a synthetic blend this weekend, as I could not find pure synthetic. He said the system was designed for pure synthetic and expected heat-related problems with standard PS or blends. He was very surprised that all the auto parts houses don't carry it. FYI...

    1996 Visors

A guy on eBay has been selling plastic pieces to slide into the visor, lock into place and fix the problem. They were cheap ($10 or so) and worked nicely.....but one broke in less than 6 months.

    86 Electronic Climate Control

The terminals that attach directly to the control head. I'm not familiar with the '86 and my '96 may be different. I have had to pull the controller two or three time and clean the terminals with electronics cleaner.

    86 Electronic Climate Control

Have you tried cleaning the control head contacts? About once a year my system gets flakey--some buttons won't work, fan speed won't change--and cleaning the contacts cures all its woes. Might be worth a try since it has to come out anyway.

set of polished and satin rims

The Firehawks are OK but don't stick anywhere near the Run Flats--With the Goodyears the car handled ungodly quick, but they were also ungodly noisy, stiff and uncomfortable. The Firehawks are super quiet and (relatively) comfortable at highway speeds. Would I buy Firehawks again? Probably...

    Crankshaft Position Sensor access

Yeah, you sure can tell it was an afterthought.... No body in their right mind would have put it there. $27 was for labor only, the part was $60+. It was the sensor leaking. The water pump and Opti are still going strong.

    Crankshaft Position Sensor access

Thanks for the info, Magik, but I took the path of least resistance. That looked like such a bear that I took the car to a mechanic. Cost: $27 labor and no skinned nuckles (for me... The mechanic cussed Corvette engineers a lot!) Don't believe I could have ever gotten it done on jack stands...

    Ugly surge tank

I don't like rubbing on the shiney side much less the ugly side, so I don't spend much time detailing a road warrior. I have discovered a quick 'n easy product that gives a great underhood result, including plastic. I washed my engine with Greased Lightning Orange Blast (I noticed most of the...

    Front Engine Oil Leak

Could also be a leaking Crankshaft Position sensor. I've had both.

    Making your own cd's.

Most of the secret is the amount of data....Only burn a maximum of 74 minutes (at 4x) and you should not have any problem. The Bose won't read CDs containing 80 minutes, but it will read any brand 80 minute CD burned with only 74 minutes.

    Crankshaft Position Sensor access

Help! My '96 LT1 seems to have sprung a leak around the Crankshaft Position Sensor. The manual simply says to lift the car, loosen the bolt and remove the sensor. Yeah, right, I can barely see the thing much less touch it! There are two braces bolted to the crossmember and the side rails. Is...

    Hatch Vent Options ??

The hatch vent really works, but I believe I'd use mine more if it was the quick release model. I really, really wished I'd spend the extra 10 bucks the night a mountain road completely hid a downpour. By the time I got to a pulloff, got the roof on and the hatch vent unbolted I was soaked...

    Whats this hose?

That rubber boot is susceptible to heat and often deteriorates on the underside creating a vacuum leak. A perfect replacement is a spark plug boot, which is actually heat resistant. Not NCRS, but 0 cost and good for a couple of hundred thousand miles!

    '96 CE Cruise Control

Third, check the vacuum lines running into the cruise vacuum canister. Acid from the battery can eat up the rubber and cause a leak. Any of these vacuum leaks can also affect the Climate Control system.
