Gerry Thanks for all the help -- you mentioned that NAPA had a 4 pin connector that could replace the distributor connector. My NAPA guy could not find one -- I cant find one either -- do you know how I would find the part number?

Advanced timing causes engine to Skip?

So I changed 4 of the spark plug wires last night and the skip seems to have gone away. What a PIA changing the passenger side wires -- YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE STARTER! I will attack the drivers side today. Gerry -- The tack wires are pointing towards drivers side door, not the fender -- I...

Advanced timing causes engine to Skip?

Yes -- I rotated the distributor. But it would not rotate enough to get to 12 degrees because it was pulling on the wires -- so I did what anyone would do -- turn it harder:eyerole. Thats why I am thinking I trashed a wire. I am not sure which wire was being pulled because I still have the...

Advanced timing causes engine to Skip?

I took the advice that I read in this forum and set my ignition timing to 12 deg BTDC. When I did, it could feel one of the spark plug wires tug (number 8 I think). When I was finished, the car seemed to have a very small skip that it didnt have before. Also had idle issues that where new...

    door locks

The door locks will only work if BOTH switches are working perfectly. If either switch is faulty it will produce silly symptoms like one staying up and the other working. Consider replacing the switches

    E4ME Primary Throttle Shaft

Glad you got it working -- 81's still working on the computer are becoming a rare breed -- good job Just curious -- did the ECM kick a code for the bad TPS code?

New power antenna continuing to run

Just finished this with my 81. As already stated, there is a piece of thick weed whacker string internal that turns around a spool which pushed the antenna up or pulls it down. You can buy a kit that replaces it. You need to take the unit out, drill out four rivets, change the string and...

    E4ME tuning help

I want to go back to something I mentioned earlier, but tried again this weekend. If I put a rag on top of the carb, It coughs and hesitates, but then I watch the dwell meter continue to rise until it gets to about 35 -- the engine smooths out and the dwell moves from between 30 and 40 -- like...

Help! TH350 Doesnt shift at WOT

Thanks I just replaced the modulator because it would not shift out of 1st. Is there any problem running without the Detent cable attached just to see if this is the problem. I know that it wont downshift, but will it let me know if the detent cable is causing the lack of WOT upshift?

    E4ME tuning help

Vacuum I measured the vacuum at a few carberator ports at idle, 18mm hg varying about 0.5mm I measure an intake port (headlight motor line) 20mm hg Does that vacuum indicate a leak? I backed out the idle adjustment screws and it does not seem to make any difference Any...

Help! TH350 Doesnt shift at WOT

My 1981 vette with a TH350 (all original) doest not shift from 1-2 or 2-3 at wide open throttle. If the throttle is lifted to about 3/4, it will shift. Going WOT will cause a downshift. If I am patient and let the RPMs come up a few hundred, I can go WOT to the 2-3 shift. It shifts...

    E4ME tuning help

I don't have a vacuum gauge -- I will see if I can find one. What would I be looking for?

    E4ME tuning help

So from the thread, it sounds like you had an air leak in the exhaust and when you fixed it the carb began to meter as expected. That is consistent with my code 44. I will check the headers and the exaust connections. Thanks.

    E4ME tuning help

Yes, Many times. In its younger days (80's and 90's) It would never pass emmisions, to rich because the computer had a constant error code of speed sensor. Every year some bubba (even genuine GM bubbas) would rebuild the carb, then give me a sticker -- but of course the problem was never...

    E4ME tuning help

Hello all. I am trying to tune my carb in after a rebuild. In general the car runs fine, idles fine, but not consistently. This is what I found out so far. After the car is warm, start the car and the dwell reading goes to about 25. I have tried to adjust the idle air bleed -- I...

    Hey Guys and Gals!

For the computer and the carb to work it needs (this is from memory, I can look in the book and be more precise later) - Throttle position sensor - Speed sensor - Vacuum sensor - Oxygen sensor - Temperature sensor I think this is all it needs. From my experience, if any one of...

    EGR Solenoid

Those solenoids are both controlled by the computer and get no info from them. So I would not expect it to effect the computer. The way that I understand it works is the computer disables the EGR valve during idle and when you lift off the gas. TIM -- do you have an drive-ability issues...

    EGR Solenoid

This weekend I put the Distributer Shield on my 1981 -- Big day because it was the first time one has been on the car in about 27 years. Looks good, but I sure know why bubba thought fit to toss it in the first place. A bit of a PIA to get on properly. BUT-- In doing this I broke the EGR...

Disgusted With How My 81 Runs arrrggghhh!

I sent you the adjustment procedures. As I have already said, focus on the idle air bleed valve adjustment abd the idle mixture screws. I have heard a lot of people say that the idle mixture screws do very little onthe e4me. I never adusted them, just bring them 3.5 turns out from bottom and...
