I just bought this 60 body yesterday.I'll be asking lots of questions. This is my first C1. Always worked on midyears and up. I posted some of my other cars also. I'll be looking for many parts also as you can see. Thanks Brian G.
If you don't need to take the trans. out of the car you don't need to. The last one I put in was my 66 427. Just me and my wife droped it in. We had it in the hole and bolted to the bellhousing in less than a 1\2 hour. A small block is easier yet. I use a wrecker to put the motors in. So I...
I just bought a teak wheel from Eric Freeman. It is for the later mid 70s cars. It is smaller and not as deep. It looks the same as a midyear wheel and will bolt on. He has a small spacer that makes up for the notch in the later wheels. It gave me much more leg room and more room to stretch my...
On the first hot day you will see the repaired holes. No matter who or what process they use, it will show up. Leave the rack. Or be ready to see where the holes where. If it where a white or maybe silver you could get away with it. But not with that dark color.
I keep two 55 gallon drums of 114 octane fuel on hand at all times. I mix the 114 with 93 pump gas in my L88 works perfect. plugs burn clean. and no detination.Only problem is I can't go very far from home.
The car looks great and is going it be hard to beat as far as stock production cars go. Its about time GM showed the world what it can do. But how much$$$$$$ ? Now if they could only follow Fords lead and do a retro Camaro For the same kind of money that the new Mustang is. Chevrolet would be...
I have the same motor in my 65 Biscanye. A 90s LS6 crate eng. This was before they had the fuel pump boss and did not have roller cams. Before I put the eng in the car I changed the cam to a soild lifter setup. Don't remember the specs. The car runs high 13s and sounds just right. The stock cam...
I have wanted to copy that car for years now. Thats why I'm looking for a donor car to start with. IMO because your going more retro I would leave the stock grille. If I get the chance to build one, I will copy it to the last detail. but on a late frame and running gear.
As always I never think this stuff is worth this kind of money. The 63 trim tag I had from my GS roadster I built I gave to a guy that needed the red on black color compo. If my 66 was not so orig. I would pull the tag off and sell it. I never saved any trim tags. Won't do that again.
I have always (20 years now) finished taking the red primer off with coarse steel wool or scotch brite pads. Put a thin coat of stripper on a small area at a time and scubb off with steel wool and warm water. The water will break down the stripper. I never had any paint problems doing it this...
If the car is lacquer now you should not put ureathane over it. The two are like oil and water. The solvents in lacquer are never really gone. If you put ureathane over it, it will seal it up like a plastic bag. When the solvents try to breathe it will lift the ureathane right off in sheets. The...
Slick sand is a polyester primer as you know. It is meant to be like mud. Use PPG K 38 or any urethane primer you like. I use K38 and tint each coat a little darker as I go. You can tint K38 with DCC black tint. You can also thin it with DT 870 and it will lay out very nice. Sand with 400 to 600...
Maybe I am as sick as I have been told. I don't think that car is all that bad. If it where a 58 to 60 I would be all over that. As far as the bumpers being sectioned out. That was very common on drag cars. I would love to make a gasser out of that car. Tube axle, small block with a hillborn...
Stay with Dupont or PPG. I had PPG in my shop for 15 years. I switched to Dupont about 5 years ago. When a shop changes there paint system it takes time to learn that new system. I agree with paintdaddy that Sherwin Williams is low on my list. They tried to get in my shop and others in the area...
That high bidder is a good buddy of mine. He dose corvette restorations here in CT. He told me he was bidding on that car so I stayed off it. I would pay that kind of money for that car with the parts he has. I would have liked to make a deal for the car and the frame he has. That is the frame I...
A 90 vette is not the same as the early vette. The 90 is made from smc. It takes a differant type of material to repair. Old vettes are made from polyester resin and fiberglass mat. In the 80s it changed to smc ( sheet molded compound). The smc is more like plastic than fiberglass. If you need...
