    Gotta Love Craigslist

Tried both of the links, couldn't get them to work. If you're looking for another trans though (based on the cross memeber commment) I can share what I had to do to get a 2004r into my 81. Turns about 1700 at just over 70mph now.....

1982 Window Adjustment -too close to the top

That helps alot! You may have two issues. One the window seems to be too far inboard, and the other, the up stops may be set too high allowing the window to go too far into the top seal. That would explain why it's so hard to open. If you look at how the window is hitting the weather strip...

1982 Window Adjustment -too close to the top

Really? I guess I've been lucky. I know you three know what you're doing, I've read your posts! First I adjust the tops, by the service manual, then the windows. I use the assembly manual procedure to get close sometimes it works for a final fit, but not usually. Then I use the service...

1982 Window Adjustment -too close to the top

Okay, I've done this before and several times!! LOL I did it when I got the car, it was leaking, then when I replaced the tops, then again when I did all the weather strips. I'm assuming the clip you're talking about is the "blow out" clip that's on the A-pillar. Your window is supposed to be...

1982 Window Adjustment -too close to the top

The AIM shows a good window adjustment procedure, but the shop manual is better for adjustments like your talking about. It can be a pain, but it works well. If you don't have a manual, I can scan the pages and send them to you. It isn't difficult, but can take a couple of trys.

what to put on sticking t-top weatherstripping

I've used silicone spray. I spray it on and wipe it down with a cloth. I've used it on all the new weather strips especially the side window vertical strips and T-Tops.

    Interior dome light question

Since everything else is working correctly, the headlight switch is the only other thing in they system. Has to be. The switch comes apart (once you get it outta the dash) pretty easily, you might even be able to fix it. If you shop around on the net, you might even find it for a reasonable...

    How to kill drone

Actually, I believe your best bet is to have an X pipe put in the system to connect the two sides. This takes care of the resonance from the two sides working to multiply the sound. At least it works in C3's!!

Help! Need help identifying dash light - 1980

Yup, that goes just above and forward of the air vents in the center console. There's a little blue plastic strip that goes in the plastic piece the socket screws into, and it illuminates the climate controls. Not too bad to get to really....

    81 project

81 project update tcxd40, thanks for the complement! As we all know, projects NEVER go as planned! This has been close so far, but, broke two exhaust studs (thankfully, the ones that hold the exhaust pipes on, not in the heads) one on each side. Had to take the right side manifold off to...

    79 Elec fan thermal switch

81's have a switch too, and if memory serves it was like $30! But I know it's there...

    81 project

Okay, been busy, thought some of you might be interested. First off, I have a bone stock 81, with now about 70K on it. But as we all know, the cars weren't exactly over powered. There are certainly several ways to increase the power of the existing engines, but I've always wanted a big block...

    Question: New T-tops Leaking

The AIM is pretty good, but I think you'll find the service manual is much better for adjusting the tops. I didn't see where the AIM talks about the shims and how to use them, but it does show what the tolerances are for gaps and heights.

    Help! starting problem

Sounds like the choke or choke pull off might not be adjusted right. You wouldn't have to be out of adjustment much in FL to make it hard to start..

    Help! Battery Dies

If the battery and the charging system is working correctly, and there aren't any lights (like the vanity mirror) that stay on, then it's likely the courtesy light timer. It's a small orange box behind the glove box (taket the glove box out, don't try the circus trick of getting under it and...

    Reaching the evaporator core

Minifridge1138, I remember all the stuff you've done to get your ac to work right! I think you can see the evap if you pull the blower motor resistors outta the top of it. That might at least give you an idea if pulling it is necessary or not. I ended up flushing my condenser, but left it on...

Dual Exhaust Conversion on an '81

Changing to a true dual system will certainly allow the engine to breath better, no doubt. I'm not sure how much going from the shorty headers to long tubes will help on a stock engine, especially for the cost. It'll be interesting to hear your opinion on the increase from what you have now...

Dual Exhaust Conversion on an '81

I did true dual exhaust on my 81, though I went through mufflers rather than using a chambered system. I went with 2.5" aluminized steel pipes. I didn't elect to go with long tube headers though, without any other mods, I didn't see the benefit over the factory header type manifolds. The car...

1982 Power Door Locks: Lock but no Unlock

Stefan, I can tell you that I had the same kind of problem on my 81 and it turned out to be the connection at the drivers side switch. Seems if all 5 of the points aren't making good contact you can have this problem. I unplugged them clean them really well and plugged them both (driver and...
