Larry:
Only four more working days til Carlisle. Looks like you might make it after all. I like the side support on your seats. They look sort of like the ones we made for my wife's 62.
Just remember, there is almost always one gigantic rain storm at Carlisle, so be sure to keep a couple of...
I was a little concerned about the weight also but decided to attack that problem by eliminating those heavy non-essentials like air conditioning, heater, mufflers, and soft top. Also thinking about Lexan for windshield and door glass and perhaps an aluminum hood.

I talked to AS&M about this about 6 months ago and they told me that they did NOT have an O2 kit for the ZL1. They do have a kit for the 502 Ram Jet but it will not work on the 454 ZL1(at least that is what I was told).
The block is basically the same size as a "normal" big block, but it is...
I looked really hard at the Ram Jet ZL1 when I was choosing an engine for my 59 project. A local dealer had a ZL1 and I could have gotten a pretty good deal on it. The reasons I didn't go with the ZL1 were:
1) The fuel injection system is not user tunable. If you are planning on adding a blower...
If you cannot remember the codes, or want to see which other characters are available, go to: Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Character Map. This will bring up a table of the available "special" characters. From there you can "copy and paste" into the document you are working on...
I'm pretty sure that the injection system on the 502 Ram Jet will not support an automatic transmission. In addition the computer on the Ram Jet is not even user programmable. Your only recourse would be to adapt a "normal" GM injection system to the Ram Jet. I know someone who has done this...
I chose the GM 4L80E overdrive automatic to go behind my 572 cu.in. engine. I believe that the 4L80E is the highest torque rated, readily available 4 speed auto that GM uses (excluding the Allison), and it is used primarily in the heavier duty trucks. It is essentially a Turbo 400 with an OD...
Tom:
Thanks for the picture. Those vents look like they was designed to let hot air out of the engine compartment rather than let cool air into the carb. I guess the baffle in front was to create a low pressure area over the louvers. What I need is a real scoop to clear the carb.

Larry:
I thought about putting the trans. cooler in the same place as yours but I was a little concerned about the proximity to the headers.
I also bought a Lokar shifter. It arrived without the shift rod but they sent me one with no hassle.
Charles
Larry:
Thanks for the reply. I used the Aeroquip TFE hose on the power steering system on my wife's car so I'm familiar with that system. The regular Aeroquip AQP hose is rated at 1000 psi so I was planning on using it since it is a bit easier to work with.
Are you using a thermostatically...
trans cooler lines
Larry and John (or anyone else):
Since you bring up the subject of transmission cooler lines, I have a question for you. The automatic transmission that I am using in my 59 project was plumbed with hard steel lines but most of the aftermarket cooler kits come with flexible...
Larry:
Congratulations on a successful startup. I hope I can get mine cranked up in a few weeks. Hope to see you and your car in Carlisle. Exactly what switch are you throwing over there on the right side of your car? How did you convert your video to MPG format?
Charles
Congratulations. Always good to have another set of eyes around when you start one up for the first time. Not sure about the 502 but on my 572 there is a small Oring that fits around the dip stick tube. When I removed the the dipstick to fit the headers the Oring stayed in the hole and I...
Tom:
Pardon my ignorance, but what does a Sebring style vent look like. I'm working on a 59 that is going to need some sort of hood scoop. I have a hood that looks sort of like the C3 L88 hood but I don't particularly like the way it looks on the car.
Charles
Collin:
Your trailer certainly looks great. I am in the looking stage for a trailer so would you giving some specifics about the trailer, such as:
1. What brand/model is it?
2. What is the box length?
3. What are you pulling it with?
Thanks,
Charles
They are 245/45R17 Michelin Pilot Sports, mounted on C5 wagon wheels.
After my experience with Wheel Vintiques in building some 7 x 16 steel chrome smoothie wheels for my wife's 62, I would not recommend them for building steel wheels. Perhaps their aluminum wheels are better, but I had to...
Even though they are unfinished at this point, here is a picture of the 17in. wheelcovers I am putting on my 59 project. Think they will be different enough?
Tim:
The C4 suspension used on these cars is wider than the stock C1 so the wheels required to fit inside the stock wheel wells have to have a lot of backspace. The C5 (and some Camaro, Firebird, etc.) wheels fit correctly and they are readily available. When I built my wife's 62 I had a set...
Larry:
I am facing a similar hood clearance problem with my car. From your pictures it would appear that you will have to add a hood scoop/bulge to clear any type of carb mounted air cleaner. What are you planning for a hood scoop? Someone gave me an old C1 "L88" type hood that will give me...
This is not how I found my C1 but rather how someone found mine.
I purchased a newly restored, NCRS topflight, 62 fawn/fawn car in 1999. A few years later I purchased another 62 for a frame conversion project. When the frame conversion car was completed I realized that I was not driving the...
