Mystery solved
Mystery solved ( and the locksmith JUST beat me to it ) So there is 1 extra in in the ignition prawl that locks the key in position in anything else BUT off. But 3 people have stated that keys with ALOT of wight hung on em damage that prowl over time and cause this " feature "...
Still more data points needed on this key situation
Anyone else have the ability to pull the key out in the RUN position or do have the only 3 ignition switches in the UNIVERSE that do that??

We start out like this:
Salvage title ( VERY light hit on drivers side bumper )
Owner replaced DS 1/4, bumper ( with only 1/2 the headware )...

OLD points ( bad ) new points good ( for a while ) … Hmmm seems THERMAL to me.
Things to check..
1) The dizzy timing adv plate moves smoothly ( might need a bit O cleaning & lube ).
2) The wire coming from the points down the Dizzy base to the coil… is it ORIGINAL? The ends...
How old is the engine?
Specifically how old is the timing chain? But before going off the deep end…
Simple checks..
1) Pull the #1 plug, take a breaker bar ( ratchet ) and with the car in NEUTRAL crank till your timing mark is at TDC.
Take a LONG wood dowel and poke it down the #1 hole ( DO...
The OL leaky Q jet trick
There are aluminum staked plugs in bottom of the carb that tie into the fuel system...
After all this time they leak.... and when heat is applied they leak WORSE which explains your symptoms...
Without going into the WHY these are under the hood.. ( I believe the " thinking " was lost somewhere in the 80's )...

Timing is everything
I hate that when a project stalls like that.....and there doesn't see to be a way out....
That being said, maybe you could hit up the local community college that has an auto shop..
Ask the teacher for a few names..of the better wrenches in his class...

Updates
Spent a BUNCH of time getting the 73 back ALIVE... But a setback.. The rear main is leaking BAD and A new clutch is in order..
( sourcing parts now )
Today, my younger son put the new aluminum radiator in... and gave it a good run....

OOPS.... Well things were going a bit to well on the 73 project...The rear main seal dribbled.. and now I have oilsoakedslippyclutchitis. Well considering front harmonic balancer seal was no longer rubber but black NON rubber, the rear must be FAR WORSE. Can't complain it's...
It's trickey
One of the blacks comes from the starter motor/bat neg tie point... that 1 black wire goes to the case ( ground ) of the blower motor and THEN goes ( via the " other " black ) to the wiper motor case...

1) For many years she sat in silence till 9-10
2) It took a WEEK to dig her out
3) Just to get HERE 10-3
4) Days of final prep.
